My husband called me today and was in a panic state. He said that he tried to us our Walmart money card and it wasn't approved. He said that for some reason we haven't been getting the Walmart e-mails and that made him a little worried. We never had an idea that they had blocked our card. No body from Walmart said a word to us about it. We found out because a purchase was refused.  My husband called the number on the back and talked to someone. The lady didn't say a lot, except that the account was being investigated by 'a team', don't know who, just a team, and that this would be going on for five days. So, our money will be blocked for the next five days.......only.........we hope. When asking about why and who, she only said that it was because our tax refund money had been deposited into two different Walmart cards, true, and that she couldn't tell us who was doing the investigating. I'm sorry, but this sounds like fraud to me. And it sounds fishy that they want you to give them over your SS# and ID.   This tax refund went into my husband's Walmart card account, that only uses for business travel, his needs, what ever, and the other account and card has my name, the card we use for paying bills, food, kids needs, whatever.  We haven't done anything wrong.  We have committed no fraud but it sounds like Walmart or GE bank, or both are trying too!

After reading complaints on this site, I'll have my husband call the General attorney or Better Business Bureau or somebody that can tell us what's going on and how we can fight this. This is criminal that big business can do things like this and we little people are at their mercy. We used Walmart money card before and never had a problem until now. I'm also angry that they never, never notified us about a problem, never notified us about an investigation and refuse to tell us who this so called team is. This makes me scared to give them SS#'s because for all we know, they might use that for identity theft!  This is unprofessional and there is no excuse in not notifying someone about something that's important like this.  There needs to be a class action lawsuit against this card! Like I said we were never notified about a block and we're innocent of any wrong doing, as this team will find out, if they aren't really thieves taking off with our money and SS# information.

Ken gave you a link to a similar report for a reason, because the suggestion there is what you ought to do.
Instead of waiting and diddling with Walmart and your state's AG, who can't do a thing in this matter, you probably need to speak to the IRS, and if necessary, try to get all the funds moved to the card y'all have in both your names.
Whatever you think of the state of the Union is neither here nor there to them. The idea going forward should be to get the issue at hand resolved the way you need it to be quickly, without further issue.
Don't badger IRS reps about Big Brother and all this other stuff. Just state the facts clearly regarding your 2 cards to get it fixed fast, hopefully.

We file jointly. I'm a stay at home mom with five kids.
One Walmart money cards has both me and him on it, and the other is his account, which is used for his work related expenses.
He was finally told that we were flagged because we had such large deposits in both accounts. Well, cause we have five kids, plus I'm a stay at home mother. This is a tax refund!
Also, we deposited some of the return last year in his account only, because the joint money card is fairly new. We only got it recently. The Turbo tax does ask if you want to deposit the refund in multiple accounts.
If this is an IRS issue, they never notified us. Also, if this is an IRS issue, this is kind of big brotherish. I think the patriot act had good intentions but has some hick-ups that cause poor people, like my family, to suffer for no fault of their own. My husband worked for that money. It's the families money. We're not criminals, we're just another American family that's been ruined by this recession and barely getting by. I don't need the government, Walmart, GE bank, or who ever making it worse for my kids.
I talked to my pastor's wife about this and she told me that they had something like this happen to them earlier this year.
America is becoming a scary place to live. I feel like this is a you're guilty until proven innocent type of deal. I had to call my pastor so I could feed my kids until we get this fixed. They'd help us with other expenses too. But I'm concerned for others that may not have someone else to fall back on.
I told my husband to call the General Attorney for our state. He said he'd give them the five days and if not he would, plus call an attorney we know to get some advice.

Joint return

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

Was your tax refund a joint return or was it your husband only? If it was your husband only, then you did violate IRS regulations. They state that the money can only be deposited into an account with the same name. So if it was your husband's tax refund, it can only go in to an account with your husband's name on it.
