I purchased an extended warranty for my car which I bought at 29100 miles. On phone, I was told that since usually people are allowed to drive 12000 miles per year, I could get 4 years/75000 max (whichever is earlier) warranty.

I did make a mistake of not reading the contract, primarily because when the contract came, I was out of the country for long time and on return, did not pay attention - agree that it was my mistake of not reading it and contact this company immediately.

But it is obvious that they are in the business of cheating and not honoring verbal offers. When the time came to get some repair done, the mileage hit 51900 and I have been told that the contract was for 4 years and 50000 miles. When I asked how come they thought one would drive about 5000 miles per year max, I was told that it was what I signed for. When I insisted that they produce the voice recording (which I was told at the time of purchase that all conversations were being recorded) which should produce evidence that someone altered the miles after I paid for over the phone, the not-so-gentleman claims agent was rude and misbehaved with me. Bottomline, my claim was denied. The amount of money I paid, I had different options to go for at the time I paid for this extended warranty. This is a company which must be closed down by all state consumer protection commissions.

Again: in this case, legally I understand that I cannot do anything since I should have contacted the company within the stipulated time for any correction or cancelled my contract. But the reality sometime is different which for my case, forced me to go out of the country without much of internet access or the physical mail address for the duration in which time the cancellation was possible. And I was too naive to believe in the phone conversation. So, I am warning others about the unethical practice of this provider.
