I am one who is in the beginning of a divorce so my financial situation is already in shambles. I opened and account with wa mu over the internet since i am one to overdraw sometimes they had a free checking account with an awesome overdraft protection. I had 300 dollars in that account and somehow some internet companies got hold of my account and withdrew money for programs i did not sign up for i had to call those companies and cancel them and they didnt refund money..

okay not wa mu's fault before i knew that happened it caused me to overdraft. which came out to over 200 dollars because i didnt catch it in time. still not wamu's fault. but here is what they did.I got paid on august the 19th in my greenbank account in my hometown my pay check is direct deposit i wanted to eventually switch over to them because they sounded so "convincing" of course i was already over drawn in my account with wami 200 dollars so I had 550 dollars transferred over from my greenbank account to the wamu account to cover some checks i had written.

come august 20 my greenbank account had shown that they had transferred the 550 dollars over to the wamu account. I got to noticing something wasnt right when i noticed several more overdraft fees coming out of the wamu account. I should have had enough in there to cover the checks that i had written and they started clearing on the 20th but wamu returned 7 checks and charged NSF charges for every one of them. the ledger balance said i had money in the account but the balance said -400 dollars and something which made no sense.

okay their NSF charges took all the money that was supposed to be in that account so now i have now i have no money to pick up those checks because wamu took that money. i tried to call and all i got was automated stuff i could not talk to a human being. i kept emailing them and they told me that the funds that they had taken out of my greenbank account on the 20th to be transferred over to the wamu account was not going to be available until august the 25 even though they had already taken it out of the greenbank account. and the checks would not be honored because the account was overdrawn.

i kept askin where the 550 dollars was and they kept saying that they were in the right. how can they do this. that money that was transferred should have been available once it was drafted out of my greenbank account in to the wamu. by the time they got done with the NSF charges there was a little over 7 dollars left. all i can do is cry cuz they say they are in the right, i just wnder how i am supposed to pick up all these checks with no money to cover the checks or the service charges these stores are gonna charge me when i pick them up.

MY advice is that sometimes the hometown banks are the best banks and to WATCH OUT FOR WASHINGTON MUTUAL BANK ESSPECIALLY OVER THE INTERNET THEY LOVE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN AND THE SAD PART ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE ME IS THAT THE FEDREAL GOVERNMENT BACKS THEM UP, leaving people like me in financial ruin not to mention embarrassment. Something needs to be done to these banks because that is nothing but stealing.

Overdraft protection

AUTHOR: Nancy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 23, 2008

What happened to your overdraft protection that you said you had? WAMU should have paid the checks and charged you the nsf fee. Overdrafrt protection is sort of like a loan. Lets say you have overdraft protection of $300. You overdraft by $250. The bank will pay those checks but still charge you a nsf fee. Then when you make a deposit they take back that $250 they paid out plus the fees. Overdraft protection does NOT prevent fees, it jsut prevents the checks being returned to the vendor.
