Hello Duane, this is a very simple question to answer. The reason why you received those fees is because the state of Washington has "certain" laws in regards to how they process deposits and asses fees. I feel bad for anyone in the state of Washington or New Mexico who have opened up checking accounts because the way that items are paid through the order of posting. The best thing for you to do is to visit your local congressman and complain to him and let him know how to feel. And do you want to know another thing about this? It's the citizens in your state who voted Yes on this law and accepted it..

It allows the bank to charge excessive fees. And it is done with intent..since how many customers once they deposit CASH..assume they can spend THEIR OWN MONEY as they see fit? The bank of course loves this..so it is "right" for them. For the customer on the other hand that doesn't know about this until it is too late...not so good.
Just keep spreading the word how this bank operates so maybe they (or the state) will change something before it ends up in court or a forced change is enacted through legislation, which can take time.
