There is a class action just waiting to happen against Wells Fargo, all we need is a lawyer to pick it up...
Last week, at a movie theater I discovered that I could not use my debit card. When I called the bank to find out why they simply said that my account was frozen. Why was my account account frozen, I asked--because they felt like it.
Without any prior notice or good reason my account was frozen. Money could go in but nothing could come out. Plenty of funds were available to pay my bills and the ones I did happen to pay were sent back, as if there were no sufficient funds.
This was one of the most embarrassing and demeaning experiences of my life. How do you tell your credit card company that your banks sucks and you really do have money? They don't care, they just up your APR. It took an entire day, lost wages, and tears to get my account unfrozen. They made me feel like a felon.
Someone took them to court in 2002 and won, for the same type of situation. It can be done. Please help!

Why don't you read the original posts before posting an inane rebuttal and wasting resources?
Had you read and comprehended the original post, you wouldn't have made a post that makes you look so foolish. It was nice of Erika to explain it to you though. Maybe you just didn't have time to read it thoroughly because you were about to embark upon one of your many first class air adventures with the rich and famous.
Now to Erika, If you have a solid history with your CC company, they WILL cut you a break. Just tell them what happened. Maybe you already did.

I'm a teller trying to understand your complaint

Hi Erika,
I read your comment as far as your debit card not working and I also scrolled down a little and read that indeed, they did tell you a reason for freezing your account. "A glitch in their system did not catch your credit score when you opened your second account in the first place."
You also mentioned that you had a credit fraud situation that came up.
Lastly you mentioned your credit card situation. That makes sense. I understand where you're coming from on that, many credit card companies will raise your rate if you pay late, carry a high/overlimit balance, or other reasons.
I also understand where you're coming from
on the credit fraud situation. That will also mess up a credit score. However, I don't believe just a low score will prevent one from being offered an account. Being in Chex Systems however is almost a GUARANTEE that you won't get the account.
I don't see that they could've opened your account and then shortly after FREEZE your account without telling you. For example, when tellers place holds on deposits, we do have to let our customers know. And if it's a postal deposit we have to let the customer know by the 1st business day after the deposit is recieved.
How long passed between opening your account and finding out that it was frozen?
And please tell me what representative of wells fargo told you that they froze your account because they FELT LIKE IT?!
I will personally report it to my branch mgr in minnesota and we will verify this...
We want to make sure that one person doesn't bring down the rest of Wells Fargo.
Anxious to hear more about this wells fargo experience.

There was a reason...

The reason they froze my account was because a glitch in their systemt did not catch my credit score when I opened my second account in the first place. I have also been a victim of credit fraud and that has left a mark on my credit that has taken at least a year to work with.
The APR that was increased was not on a debit card, it was with the credit card company I had an agreement with. The funds were to be electronically transfered, thus maintaining my APR at a lower rate. The returned check incurred fees, and by the time I had the opportunity to pay it I had incurred late fees. So, the negative transactions caused them to raise my APR.

Same thing happened to me

The same type of situation happened to me about 5 years ago. What happened was when I banked with wells fargo, I closed my account while I still had an outstanding check that wasn't cashed. This overdrew my account, and about a year later they reported me to check systems. This went out to ALL banks and my WAMU account became frozen. The only way I could get my money out of WAMU was to actually close my account (they basically told me they don't hold accounts for people reported to check systems). So, I took my money out and had to go back to Well's fargo and open an account with them in order to pay my $50 that had been owed to them for a year.
So, to sum things up, Erika probably was reported to check systems by a previous bank, and nobody told her.
Good luck sorting everything out.

There HAD to be a reason..

Come on, banks don't just freeze for no reason. They had to have some justification to freeze it. You didn't tell us what that reason was. I know they would have told you why they did it. Even if they did it by mistake, they would have told you that much.
So what was the reason? Maybe their justification for doing so wasn't valid in your mind, and that's why you say they did it for no good reason. But what was that reason anyway?
Do you have a history of overdrafts? Have you bounced checks before? Had you made a deposit of an out-of-state check? They HAD to have given you a reason.
