I am a current student of the school. I wish I were not. It has been far too difficult to keep afloat. First, you are promised that you can get a degree online, and you do not have to be online all the time. This is true, EXCEPT for the fact that you have to spend countless hours studying and posting messages. I know any college worth its salt is hard, but this is crazy! I have a life, and a family. You get no breaks. You cant even do make up work!

Recently, I have had a problem sighning into my account. I have tried over and over again, but I am unable to sign on. I called tech support, they did not answer. I emailed my counselor, and I got no help there. I am going to be four days without attending school, and frankly that is too much money for me to owe and not get anything from it.

I dont know what to do. I am seriously considering quiting college, all that debt for nothing. Anyone having similar issues, or other complaints about the school, I would like to talk about it. I have no interest in being contacted by anyone working from the school, I would appreciate my wishes being met.

I just graduated from WIU.

AUTHOR: Julie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 01, 2007

WIU is part of the University of Phoenix. so is Axia college! I have attended both the University of Phoenix and Western International since I began pursuing my degree 3 years ago. I just finished my degree (with WIU)last week and I must say that WIU is an awesome school! I have not experienced any problems with technical support.

The few times I have called, the problem I was experiencing usually pertained to my pc or my internet connection and were easily corrected. My family and friends know how much studying time I have had to put in since I started my degree program. It has been a sacrifice at times (giving up some partial weekends) but very well worth it!

Distance learning requires great reading comprehension skills and lots of steadfast dedication. People who are dedicated and committed to their studies will do just fine. People who are looking for an easy road should not consider distance learning. There is no way to "fake" it. Your assignments prove whether you are truly studying or not.

I am going to continue on with UOP to further my education even more. I love it! I would recommend both WIU and the University of Phoenix to my friends and I have. Two are currently enrolled and pursuing their degrees. Earning a degree can be very difficult for some people regardless of if it is online, or on a physical campus. It takes hard work! I am glad that I made it to this point and I'm going to keep on going!

Thanks UOP, WIU and APOLLO group! You're the best!

Julie

Hey there P....

Before you start spouting off about "not even being close" maybe you should check your facts - Western International University and The UOP are the same thing! They all are part of the same group/school/accredidation therefore they qualify as being the top online college. geez...

WIU part of a group

AUTHOR: Kelly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 22, 2006

I think the instructor was saying that WIU is part of the Axia and Apollo group which UofP is part of so that makes them the largest group.
I am graduating from WIU soon and yes they require alot of work but it is worth every min. of it.

Instructor needs to check her facts!

AUTHOR: P - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 31, 2006

Linda, the instructor said Western University was the largest online school. WRONG not even
close University of Phonex is the largest, and
AUI is in second place. Western is not even in
the top 20. Further students who attend Western
University had better check to see if their
degree will be excepted, there seems to be some
problems with that as well.

As the other student said in her rebuttal, this is not for everyone. The first student complaint was they have a life and was expected to work. Yes you are expected to work. At a Bricks and Morter college I think the ratio is two to one; two hours studying to one in class.
The student discussed server issues. Yes there are from time to time. We are the biggest online school. However you can send your work to the faculty and faculty are instructed to be lenient with server issues. Since faculty use the same servers, we know when there are issues. During these times. you can usually work online, but not through Outlook Express.

Here are some comments from my Axia students about me:

I loved the citation machine, that is so helpful to us. Your documenting does help coach and assist. I have to say you have provided more feedback and helpful posts than any other teacher I have had as of so far. And as far as not wanting a A, I can not settle for anything less than an A or B and never have, but do admit in most classes I could have received an A but settled for a B out of pure laziness in some classes but in others out of just not clearly understanding what was wanted in a paper, that was never the case in class, you have always provided great examples and help clearly understanding the assignment. In other classes, I have specifically asked and still not received any better understanding. You have been great and I know everyone agrees on that. Your class is the only one I did the survey on ever, because I liked your teaching so well.

Thank you. You have certainly made this class one of the best classes I have taken so far. Your enthusiasm is contagious. You could instruct the instructors! I will miss you and will certainly keep in touch.

Thanks for being so understanding. You are a great person and teacher. I will miss reading your jokes. Your the funniest and nicest teacher I have in this course.

Indeed!!!!! Dr. xxx has been the best teacher I have had. Thank you Dr. xxx for your kindness, understanding and knowledge. :) You will be missed!!!!

we will miss you too dr.xxx. you are one of the best teacher's I have had in the soon to be six classes I have completed.

WOW!!!! I had a chance to read through the links and the information you provided. I loved the information and it helped me to get a clearer understanding and focus on my topic. Thank you for taking time to help me. It is very much appreciated.

You are, without a doubt, the best instructor I have had to date. I am definitely sending a letter to administration commending your extra efforts to ensure your students are a success!!!

I have taught at other schools. Axia has a low teacher to student ratio (currently 20 to one or less). Faculty's only role is to facilitate student learning and provide effective coaching in a nurturing environment.

If the student does not have the time to attend college is that a problem with the University? Far as servers being down, all colleges have challenges. I teach my students to anticipate and know what to do. They enjoy the flexiblity of going to school anytime 24/7 and the sharing in the classroom. Of course I ALWAYS have the best students.

Thanks for the opportunity to respond. Axia has brought the opportunity of a college education to many women. I enjoy working there. Faculty are very nice to each other. Staff are professional. The school facilitates Faculty interaction and sharing of best practices. My students benefit not only from a standarized curriculum and my expertise, but also from many other faculty who share tips. I read at least one book a week to share with the class. I love learning and think education should be fun.

WIU Student

AUTHOR: Sabrina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 11, 2006

I attend WIU and have also attended regular college classroom. WIU is no different in the amount of work asked for and having it turned in on time. As a matter of fact you have as much as a week to do your finals for WIU classes. I also used tech. support, which i found i rarely need, and have never had an issue not resolved while i was on the phone with them. I have attended WIU for a year now and other than the fact that you don't get as much help from some of the instructors as needed (you find that at any college), i am very pleased with WIU. Online learning requires you to be able to learn on your own with a book and the computer to do research for any further help you need. It is certainly not for everyone.
