The main website for the game Magic: The Gathering Online claims one can "play the demo" and redirects to this web page, which promises a free trial. This web page provides step by step instructions on how to access the free trial.

After lengthy time and bandwidth consuming downloads totaling over 1 gigabyte in size, the user finds the free trial option is not available and the program immediately requests payment of $9.99 to access the game.

I contacted Wizards of the Coast customer service multiple times and they have done nothing to correct this. There forum indicates they have been aware of the false advertising for over one month and have taken no steps to rectify the situation.

Situation Resolved

AUTHOR: Budgallant - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 15, 2008

This is a quick update to let anyone who may be concerned about this know that is was resolved quickly and completely, once reaching the attention of senior management at Wizards of the Coast.

Within days of my latest notifications to the company, I was contacted personally, and informed the information on the website was updated. Additionally, they were very polite, friendly, and expressed a lot of gratitude for having this brought to their attention. I do believe this was just a simple oversight, due to a recent update of the game client.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Wizards of the Coast, and their products before. Initially I believed this was going to be a very big disappointment, but Wizards of the Coast has gone above and beyond in addressing this matter, and I remain confident in their brand, and their customer relations skills.
