We have been with Woodforest for 5 plus years and have had their basic account for the entirety of that time. This includes overdraft protection of 500.00 which I have done every month for years. I have paid thousands of dollars in overdraft fees on Items costing as little as 2.00, which cost 30.00 per item per month. At one point we had two accounts, both with protection, one with 500 and the other with 300. This is not the first time they have shut our account down even with a consistent stream of money coming into the account from my disability.  This time I received a letter stating that we owed 300 for something (Im guessing a closed account) but was given not explaination in the mailing. It stated that we had three days to pay the 300 plus dollars or they were going to shut down our account as well. So I called and asked them to wait 5 days for my next deposit and we would gladly pay what was owed. I was given to a supervisor because their was something strange about my account. They asked me to hold and when she returned she said the other dept. doesnt extend days once a letter has been sent. (BTW you have my number just call me when there is an issue. Like you do every month to ask when my deposit will be made, its the same every month when its direct deposited.(or in my case last weekday of the month) Well I decided it was a lost fight and asked to pick up the remainder of my funds at the branch after they took their 800 plus dollars. So the lady says great and I even agree that Im going to reopen an account. I arrive at the branch on Friday to be informed that a check had been mailed at 1130am on a Friday. So now my daughters birthday on Sunday at the skating ring that we set up a month ago. Canceled. Groceries for our six children. Canceled. Its now Tuesday and still no check, gas in van. Canceled. Paying electric bill as promised. Canceled. If I did the same thing this bank has some protections. We have zero recourse except to bank somewhere other than Woodforest. So Woodforest I put up with alot over the years but Im switching to a local bank so when something like this happens they wont wreck havoc on an already difficult situation.

What An Admission!

You've had THOUSANDS of dollars of overdraft fees???  Do you kinda think after the very first overdraft fee you would have learned how to manage a checking account which incudes keeping written records of each and every card usage and maintaining an on-going running balance then only using the card when the balance left could pay for the transaction???

Nope!  You just continued to use the card when you had absolutely ZERO IDEA how much money you had in the account.

No need to blame Obama, the banks, the economy or anybody else.  There's no tricky accounting here either.  You, like all the other whiners who come here are too lazy to maintain written records which would give you the most accurrate balance in the universe!

Don't waste the effort...I'll tell you now, I don't work for them!

Some information for you...

The $500 OD protection is there for occasional emergencies, not every month usage. It is not a credit limit for you to use to buy more than you can afford. You should have gotten this message the first time they shut your account down, and I'm sure they didn't warn you then either. If a bank was to tell an account holder, especially one regularly overdrawn, that at the end of the moneth your account will be closed, a large percentage of people would go and spend even more moeny that they don't have to try to stick the bank.

As far as them not looking at your account, I have a feeling that that's exactly what happened to cause them to close the account. It doesn't matter that you've paid them back once, twice or however many times before. At some point their going to decide that you're a poor risk for them and close your account. Every bank and credit union will do this.

As far as you "putting up with a lot over the years" I'm sure Woodforest feels the same way. Which is why they closed your account. And because I know the usual claims: I have never worked for Woodforest but I am a customer.
