WPMU Dev Watchout! All plugins are subscription-based (monthly fees)! Albert Part, Australia

I have been looking for a Subscribe by Email plugin for a nonprofit organization that I work for. Unable to find any robust solutions I stumbled upon WPMU Dev and their "Subscribe by Email" plugin. The plugin was just what I needed. After doing what I thought was due diligence I went ahead and paid the $19 for the plugin to find moments later that what I had signed up for was not a monthly fee. While the WPMU Dev website maintains that it is a membership-based service, plugins of this sort are not typically $19/mo. In fact, I went back through the website to see if anywhere WPMU talks about monthly fee. Unless I am daft I do not see where they explicitly state that all plugins and themes downloaded are billed monthly. I was immediately angered and cancelled my subscription and also deleted the plugin. Right away I emailed the company and received a flurry of emails explaining to me that they would not refund my money and that they were sorry that I did not understand that they were a membership service. To be sure, WPMU Dev is ripping off its customers. Not telling the truth about billing is a ripoff. I hope that others will not make the same mistake that I did. Instead, I will be telling all my colleagues, connections and friends about this horrible company.
