YMCA BEWARE if you PREPAY at the Y Hollywood Florida

BEWARE if they ask you to PREPAY at the YMCA.  I had fond memories and an unwarranted amount of trust in the YMCA since that's where I took swimming lessons as a child.  So, when it was time to teach my toddler to swim I'll admit I was stupid.  I failed to investigate the complaints lodged against the Y and I failed to shop around but instead I went right to the Y on 10/26/11 and I paid them the $90 they asked for.

Right after the lessons started the Hollywood Y was shut down due to a sewage spill that affected their facilities. I called, got no callback and then went in peron where I was told that I would be contacted as soon as they reopened to restart our lessons.  After a few months and no contact I called again and again and again...  and I have continued to call up until last week (May 20, 2014) when I left a message for the executive director, Greg Sukanofski.  Over the past TWO AND  HALF YEARS I  have called for or spoken with the old aquatics director, the new aquatics director, the membership director, the executive director and numerous receptionists and/or sectetaries.  I have also shown up in person but the only one I have been allowed to speak with was Anna (PLEASE SEE RUDE & CONDESCENDING in the next paragraph.) so that was a colossal waste of time.

I have mostly spoken to pleasant, polite and professional people with the exception of Anna, the old aqautics director who was very condescending almost to the point of outright rudeness and who certainly didn't belong in any position that allowed interaction with the public.  I've been told "we're backed up now because of the shut down", "a new class will be starting soon", "you have to speak with the new aquatics director, the membership person, the executive director or the pool cleaner who is only in on the 6th Sunday of the month... but don't worry they will call you back."

What I haven't done is I have NEVER EVER gotten a call back.  I chose the Y because I thought they could be trusted with the priceless and vitally important task of helping my child to swim.  It seems that nowadays they can't be trusted to honor a simple  contract nor even to return a phone call.
