As a new business owner, I receive multiple pieces of mail asking me to verify my listings for the various websites that aggregate information such as Google, Yellowpages.com, etc..

I received a piece of mail from a company that used the Yellow Pages Logo and referred to themselves as Yellow Pages Online Services asking me to "Verify" my listing and stating that "This Is Not A Bill" in very large font on the front of the statement.  I filled out the form and sent it in.

A couple of weeks later, I receive an invoice from the company in the amount of $329.  I called the 800# to ask why I was receiving the bill and I learned that this company is NOT Yellowpages.com as they have led me to believe and that what I had filled out had given them permission to charge me $329 for six months of a listing on an UNKNOWN website called Ypedia.com.  I told them that was not the yellow pages and he said they were the "Yellow Pages Of The Digital Age"

I asked them to remove the charges as I did not want this service and they have refused.  I was told they would only cancel the next 6 month bill but not the current bill even though I was not interested in their service.

If you ever get a statement from "Yellow Pages Online Services" asking you to verify your business listing, DO NOT send it back in!!  READ THE FINE PRINT.

Well after I filed this report I also contacted YPEDIA customer service.   Their reply to me was prompt and I spoke with a customer service representative.  He explained that the conditions were written on the back of the form I signed and further explained their services.   After this discussion I was told that the listing was going to be removed at my request and that all fees would be waived.   A few days later I received the cancellation in writing.   I replied asking if all fees were waived and if I owed any money and I was told I did not owe anything.    Thank you for the customer service rep who resolved this issue.

I noticed others were able to get this resolved by Emailing: customercare@ypmadeeasy.com  and asking for the service to be terminated and for the fee to be waived.   I have recently taken this action and will update with my results.

ypedia.com is a scam!

AUTHOR: Mike Miller - ()

I am also a victim of ypedia.com. They are very aggresive and provide no service in return for your money. A few months ago I was consulting with a startup in silicon valley. I was reviewing expenses with the CFO and ran across a bill from ypedia.com. The CFO didn't recognize the name and a search of the AP system found that the company had already paid two bills. The person approving the bills was the marketing manger.

When I approached the marketing manager with the bills, he said he didn't recognize it either, but assumed it was valid. Together we visited their website and found their was no way to cancel. When we tried to login, his email address was rejected.  I started to smell a scam.

A quick search of "ypedia.com reviews" on Google found the truth: this company is defrauding a lot businesses. Branding themselves as the "yellow pages of the digital age"? moz.com showed the only links back to their website are from people complaining about being scammed.

We next ran a WHOIS query to determine who owned the domain. As I expected, the information is anonymized, but we were able to determing it was registed at GoDaddy.com. Here is the abuse line:

Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@godaddy.com

Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.480-624-2505

We called Godaddy and they promised to investigate. We also sent all the scam / fraud links we could find by email.

We were fortunate because the bills had been paid with an Amex card. We file a chargeback and received a full refund in two weeks.

If you want to help, send an email to the address above and join our fight to put these fraudsters out of business.
