Our company was contacted by Freightquote.com almost weekly in hopes that we would use their services. Finally, we decided to give them a try. We used them to send a shipment to a customer that we ship to about every other week, and they had a pretty good price. Everything went smoothly with the shipment, and all was fine.
Then, about 2 weeks later, we receive an email letting us know that the freight company they used charged us an extra $79.50, and they already billed our credit card for it. We were outraged. We contacted our representative at Freightquote.com to straighten everything out, to which he told us nothing could be done. He explained to us that the area in which the delivery was made was residential, and the freight truck company charges extra for residential deliveries.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem with us. However, there were several things wrong with this situation. First, we were never informed that we had to specify whether it was a commercial or residential neighborhood. We've never had to with other third party companies we use. We called in for the quote, so that would have been something our representative would have marked without telling us. Secondly, we've never been charged something like that before. As I mentioned previously, we ship to this guy about every other week, and we've never had an extra charge for his place being in a residential neighborhood. Thirdly, they charged our credit card without giving us notice, or without obtaining permission. They sent an email after the fact.
After getting no help from our representative, we contacted a supervisor, who was even less help. He just told us nothing could be done about it. Our problem wasn't that we had to pay, it was that we weren't told at the time of the shipment, and our card was charged without our knowledge. It all just seems very sneaky.
What I know is that after being contacted week after week by these people, we finally gave them a chance to handle a freight shipment for us, and it went horribly. We've never had a problem like that happen with a third party freight company, ever. If you decide to use them, make sure that your quote is accurate, and that you don't give them your credit card number to pay for the order.
