My husband and I went to Allen Samuels Dodge on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 @ 1:30 pm to see what the prices are on the Dodge Rams and what the possible payments would be. We walked into the dealership and spoke with a very nice sales man who was very helpful in obtaining the information needed. We told this salesman we could not afford to buy a pickup at that time, and he was about to hand the keys to us when his manager came into the office where we were and said, "Hold on. Let me see what I can, we may be able to work a deal" and walked out.
We still do not have our keys to our car as they took those to do the appraisal for trade in. He came back and gave us another figure just dollars below what the salesman gave us and again I told him we could NOT afford the payments. This went on til both me and my husband were beside ourselves and totally stressed out, which is exactly what these people do, knowing full well you will finally reach your breaking point. We ended up signing an agreement for well over the price quoted, which again is normal when buying a new car, thinking that we would just take the pickup back the next day.
We left the dealership at 6:30 pm, five hours after walking in. Wednesday, my husband to had to work late so we were not able to take the pickup back but we did take it back Thursday. Mind you we have not driven this vehicle except from he dealer to home and back to the dealer. Thursday evening we were met by another man saying he was the manager, who neither of us ever saw before, saying he would not take the truck back and that our car was not on the lot.
We were both shocked and because I had a feeling something would happen I met my husband at the dealership. We ended up leaving the pickup, both sets of keys, and all paperwork to do with this at the dealership. They now have possession of both the pickup and our car and will not give us back our car and keep telling us they will not take the pick up back. Do you not have 3 days from date of signing a contract to back out? I will NEVER purchase another Dodge product as long as I live!

"we could not afford to buy a pickup at that time"
"We ended up signing an agreement for well over the price quoted"
Never let a sales rep take control.
"thinking that we would just take the pickup back the next day"
It was deceptive of you to make a purchase with the intent of returning the item.
"Do you not have 3 days from date of signing a contract to back out?"
Not if the transaction took place at the seller's regular place of business.
Enjoy your new truck.

unless your paperwork specifically states it, there is no 3-day cooling off period. The 3-day cooling off period deals mainly with people coming into your home and pressuring you to purchase something. You might want to check the laws in Texas, but in most states, there is no such cooling off period on auto purchases. The only thing that may save you is if they can't get you financing. Then they would have to take the truck back and return your trade-in. Good luck.
