Chase Bank closed my account without informing me and begin collecting late fees on a closed account. I found they had closed my account on my credit report. When I called THEM, they lied about the closing date and said it was in March. I informed them that I knew they were lying and informed them that it was illegal to collect late fees on a closed account and asked them to cease and remove the monies and 30% interest on that amount from my account.
Two months later and their refusal to settle this account based on the amount I owed prior to illegal fee application, they stopped applying the late fees but did NOT remove the amount from the bloated total amount. I believe they are doing this on accounts across America and purposely trying to create maximum damages for fed reporting purposes. One million accounts with one month of $65.00 late fees, is $65,000,000.00. They collected three months from me. That is $195.00......
In June, they offered to settle for 55%. Less then I offered two months earlier. They refused to mitigate their own damages by settling for a higher amount. Bail out anyone?
It is now sent to collections with the lovely people at National Enterprise Systems. Anyone want to take on a bank? Tort Case?

Sorry. You are wrong. The lawyer I dated did this for a living every day. I think the real proof is that they stopped adding late fees to my account. Believe me, if they could keep adding money on they would.

Until your account is paid off it does not matter if it is "open" or "closed" you are still subject to the terms of your card. This includes ANY fees and interest rate that would be assessed.
It is NOT illegal, and you should save any money you would give to a laywer and pay your bill. And when you pay your bill be sure to get any agreement in writing before you send them any money.
