BEWARE OF SCAM RIPOFF IN YOUR INBOX:
EMPTY PROMISES FROM Emarket Research Group OR SEMIDOMESTICATIONS
Subject: CONFIRMATION ##4343-ZL32 FOR LAPTOP DELIVERY
Importance: High
Sensitivity: Personal
Sounds good and the offer sounds harmless enough: "You've been selected as one of our product testers based on your zip code. Emarket Research Group is happy to offer you this free laptop just by answering a few questions about yourself in return you will not only get the laptop but will get new products sent to your home daily."
I wanted a laptop and was willing. TWO HOUR LATER, after trying to navigate the "MAZE" of qualifying requirements, I somehow hit a wrong button and got kicked off the internet, losing the connection. Have tried four times to contact them to see if the last signup went through and find out about comfirmation of delivery---no response from anyone. NEEDLESS TO DAY, I'M UPSET, FRUSTRATED WITH THE COMPANY'S LACK OF RESPONSE, AND FEELING FOOLISH AND ANGRY FOR BEING SCAMMED.
The "offer" is not based in fact--it not simply responding to "questions"--one must SIGN UP for product offers, credit cards, etc. that not only cost money, but are often things you don't really want. Yes, you may cancel within a given time and not be charged. I'm now starting to receive the products, credit cards I ordered. NOW I MUST SPEND ADDITIONAL TIME CANCELLING THE THINGS i DON'T WANT, and still have little hope of EVER seeing a laptop.
I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau (possible fraud, bait and switch techniques, no good faith effort etc.) and wish there was a fraud unit on the internet that could shut down ripoffs such as this one appears to be, at least from my experience. I also plan to contact the State Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit.
BEWARE: I WISH I HAD CONTACTED A CONSUMER AGENCY SUCH AS THE BBB BEFORE GETTING CAUGHT IN THIS TRAP. Guess the statement "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is" is still true.
