This company does not follow up with documentation needed for FSA charges in a reasonable manner. I first learned of a pair of charges in July ($341.18 total) that they wanted documentation for in JANUARY of the next year, past the IRS deadline. They tried reaching out to a work email ONLY back in July, which clearly did not reach me due to them either having the wrong address on file or their messages getting blocked by a company filter. I received zero physical mail notifications over their need for documentation regarding until after I had left the company. I finally received ONE letter on the matter after the IRS deadline was past, far after its send date. Either I have a lost/stolen mail issue with whatever they sent before then or something, but a simple CALL would have been more than welcome before it was too late. They do not do their due diligence on getting consumers to provide the proper documentation on charges until it's too late, at which point they can make a profit from my misfortune.
I was notified by my employer that I needed to settle any outstanding FSA issues ninety days after leaving the company as a default "goodbye" type notice, however, I was not notified of any issues I would need to resolve. Since I had no further medical charges to claim, I did not know I needed to follow up with my FSA at all. Making matters worse was the fact that Paychex's online system was unusable on my office's computer, as it is some outdated combination of Flash and Java that seems woefully insecure and takes forever to load. Paychex claims their request for documentation was also on there, but if I can't access their online services, how would I have known?
Paychex's phone representatives are unhelpful and bound to their unethical, consumer-unfriendly company policies. They will never admit that a mistaken MAY have been made on their end, which it's clear to me that it has.
