We hired Colonial Van Lines, Inc. (DOT #1434373) for an interstate move from Johnstown, Colorado to Summerville, South Carolina (Job #1584220-CV-A), and what we experienced was fraud, gross negligence, and coercive abuse of our consumer rights.

1. Late Delivery and Lack of Communication

Colonial provided a written delivery window of June 21–27, 2025, and later confirmed delivery for June 22. Despite this, they failed to deliver our items until July 7, without meaningful updates or explanations for the delay.

2. Lost and Mishandled Property

On July 3, Colonial told us 1,000 pounds of our belongings had been left behind in Colorado. Their own driver admitted he had reported this issue two weeks earlier, and that the missing weight was closer to 2,500 pounds. These items remain undelivered as of the time of this complaint.

The furniture and household items that were delivered arrived unpadded, dirty, and clearly not handled properly, despite our written agreement promising professional protection and climate-controlled storage. The driver later confirmed the items had been stored in Colorado without any climate control.

3. Coercion and Review Suppression

After we posted a truthful negative review, Colonial offered us $1,100 in previously promised compensation—but only if we signed a "Full and Final Settlement Agreement" that included:

  • A non-disparagement clause;

  • A requirement to retract all reviews and complaints, even those already filed;

  • A false statement that a “satisfactory resolution” had been reached;

  • A confidentiality clause barring us from speaking further.

This is a blatant attempt to silence customers and whitewash their public record. We believe this conduct violates the Consumer Review Fairness Act (CRFA) and the spirit of fair trade.

Final Thoughts:

We’ve submitted formal complaints to the Florida and Colorado Attorneys General, BBB, FTC, and FMCSA. Colonial Van Lines’ conduct should disqualify them from future business until these deceptive practices are addressed.

Consumers should be warned: Colonial makes promises they don’t honor, mishandles your property, and then tries to buy your silence.
