Jiffy Lube Location(s): Bolingbrook & Hoffman Estates
Date(s) of Service: 07/25/24, 09/23/24 & 12/19/24

I took my 2011 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi to Jiffy Lube for routine oil changes, trusting their system to provide the correct parts. However, due to Jiffy Lube’s faulty system listing an incorrect oil filter as "compatible," my truck suffered major oil pressure failures, ultimately leading to catastrophic engine damage and over $4,600 in repair costs.

What Jiffy Lube Did Wrong:

  1. Their system listed the wrong oil filter as compatible with my truck.
  2. They installed this incorrect filter multiple times, unknowingly causing long-term damage.
  3. This led to oil pressure failures, engine problems, and thousands in repair costs.
  4. When I presented mechanic reports proving the damage was caused by the wrong filter, Jiffy Lube denied responsibility.

How Jiffy Lube Handled It:

  • Completely denied my claim, even with mechanic reports proving their mistake.
  • Refused to take accountability, instead blaming me for their system’s error.
  • Ignored my request for reimbursement despite clear evidence of their negligence.

The Damage They Caused Me:

  • Total repair costs: $4,626.04 (not including the cost of multiple Jiffy Lube oil changes).
  • Extensive vehicle downtime while my truck was in the shop for major repairs.
  • Financial stress because of their mistake and refusal to pay for the damage they caused.

WARNING TO ALL CONSUMERS:

Jiffy Lube cannot be trusted to provide the correct parts for your vehicle. Their system is flawed, and they refuse to take responsibility when their mistakes cause costly damage. If you value your vehicle and your money, DO NOT use Jiffy Lube.

I am currently escalating my complaint to the Better Business Bureau, Illinois Attorney General, and Federal Trade Commission, and I will not stop until Jiffy Lube is held accountable for their negligence.

Don't waste your time with the BBB

I think you need to gather up all the evidence and file suit in small claims court. This is pretty egregious, that oil filter is obviously totally wrong for your vehicle. I don't think it's a problem with their system, I think it's a problem with their unqualified oil change monkeys messing with things they don't understand and have no business touching. BBB is not going to help you, and the FTC certainly has no jurisdiction here. It's a straightforward civil tort case. I would suggest in the future going to a real mechanic for oil changes. These chain places employ minimum wage labor and this type of crap happens all the time.
