407 ETR Submitted account for collection-deny plates-still charging interest & fees Scarborough Ontario

Earlier this year in a monumental court decision the 407 ETR was given the right to access and have vehicle licence plates denied by the Ministry of Transportation to collect their accounts which were outstanding (there have been previous class action lawsuits with regard to their billing practices). They can now send a letter to the Ministry of Transportation to have your renewal sticker/new plate issue denied.

Here is the problem - they send the letter and instead of closing the account down the way they would if sent to a collection agency they keep the account open and still charge monthly interest and penalties. This cannot be allowed.

Firstly they are a privately owned company who should not have any right to decide who can/cannot have plates renewed/issued. If this precedent is not corrected it will put collection agencies out of business - why can one company do this and not others???

I would love the name of the Judge who made this ruling so I could start compiling letters from people affected and start dropping them in his/her lap so they could see what a ridiculous ruling they made. If they have the right to send it off and have your plates denied (which I don't believe they do) they should have to close the account down so that no further charges can be incurred by the offender or the company.
