I wanted to buy a GPS for my wife so I went to the Lowpricedigital website (http://www.lowpricedigital.com/item.asp) and saw that the one I wanted (Garmin Nuvi 660) was advertised by 86th Street Photo for the lowest price and was listed as IN STOCK. I ordered the unit online. The day after I placed my order a rep tried to contact me but I was at work. They also sent me an email saying the shipment was on hold until I verified my credit card info. I called and spoke to the Rep who told me the unit was in stock and would ship in the next couple days. He said I purchesed a great unit but I needed a $179.00 memory card for the unit to download maps and save waypoints. I didn't buy into his line and said I didn't want it. He tried a few more attempts to get me to add the card and then gave up, telling me the unit will ship the next day.
The next day I got an email saying "We regret to inform you that by the time your order reached the shipping process, our inventory on the product(s) you ordered was negative, therefore your order will be placed on a temporary backorder until we receive the product(s) back again in stock which will be in about 3-4 weeks."
I have had a previous experience with this company when my wife tried to purchase a camera about a year ago. They used the same low price advertising to hook you into ordering, but then they hold your item until you call. On this occasion, they tried to sell me lens filters. I didn't by into their ploy, so they said the camera was out of stock. They do this so often that the follow-up email they send even gives a link to cancel your order. They DO NOT want your order unless you purchase over priced accessories. STAY AWAY from this company and the website who allows this kind of advertising (Lowpricedigital.com) or you will come away from the experience feeling like you've been taken advantage of, if you buy their accessories; or at least frustrated if you don't buy their extra items.
