I am writing this report to alert other consumers of this company's rip-off practices. On December 5th, 2010 my partner called A-1 American to come and check out my fathers heating system, well we also had to go grocery shopping so we left and figured that they would still be here working on finding out what was wrong with the heat.
We came home not an hour later to find the guy was loading my fathers entire heat/ac unit onto his truck having removed it from the house, mind you it was 9:30 at night on a Sunday and it was 30 degrees out, and convincing my elderly father that there was no way he could fix it and that he needed a new system. The guy said that the new system would cost him $9200.00 but that he would give him a military and senior discount that would bring the price down to $7192.00. well he loaded it onto his truck and left without putting another unit on the house so my father was left without heat and no heating unit to replace the one he removed.
The unit he removed was only 10 years old and I believe was still under warranty so when I realized that I called the guy back and asked him to bring the unit back to the house, mind you this was only about 35 min. later and the guy said that he had already dropped it off to his junk man in Oceana, which is at least 45 min from my home and remember it is after 10 pm on a Sunday night so I know that was a flat out lie because no junk man is open on a sunday let alone after 10 pm. I told the guy from A-1American that there was no way my father was going to pay $7192.00 for a new heating unit when the one he had was still under warranty, he still refused to bring the unit back to the house and stated that I would have to call back the next day after he spoke to his supervisor.
I am so angry that these people think it is OK to rip off the elderly in the middle of winter, needless to say we called another company to come out and replace the unit because the other one was stolen. The price we were given for the new unit was far less then what A-1 American quoted us and it was a better unit to boot than what A-1 American was trying to sell us. The new company stated that they had never heard of an honest company removing a unit from a house without having another unit there to replace it, especially in freezing temperatures in the middle of the night. I hope that this report will help other people to not get ripped off by A-1 American. I

My mother needed a new unit and seeing your report kept me from calling them. I love their commercials "not just American, A-1 American".... They are NOT A-1 Americans if they do this to elderly people.....and you need to contact a lawyer and look into sueing them for the replacement cost of your new unit!!
