Wow, Unbelievable about AAFES price matching policy! I was shopping for an Ipad so I checked prices at Costco, BJ's, Best buy and AAFES. Since the AAFES is to support military members for their sacrifice you would think they have the lowest prices...or so they claim. For this particular purchase Costco had the lowest price, so I called AAFES about a price match. The policy is to match the price inclusive of the tax and shipping of a comparable item. The point being is that AAFES is a tax free sales organization!!! They should be able to match the actual sales price before tax as a benefit to military members since they don't remit any sales tax to the state. NOT SO! The "price challenge" is pretty much a scam. They should have the same prices + no tax!

Price Match

I have shopped with the BX or PX depending on its location for the better part of two decades and have learned a few things that have been helpful. The first is that like any business company buying power is everything. The BX and PX are relatively small players in the big business of retail. Outside the gate, smaller companies have slightly higher prices than the Costco's Best Buy's, and Wal-Mart's, where many of my friends authorized to purchase BX and PX merchandise shop. None of those business fund school meals, share sales revenue with may installations or give me and my service members a piece of home every time we have been deployed. I remember making a price challenge on an electronic item, and since it was a what I term a significant purchase. I read the policy asked a few questions online and was able to buy my items easily. I have always held the BX's and PX's to a higher standard. Subconsciously even more than outside the gate. No, it not fair. I guess it is because when I worked on the flight line, and they ran a little snack bar that I knew from an intro business class could not be making any profits. When I found out, the snack bar stayed open for years at a loss just to support "Us" on the flight line. Yes, Bx's and PX's can be difficult to navigate with word of mouth policies, but that true with any business. However, since it is an important part of my family, my troops, and my friends life. We have found like in life employees whether at Walmart Best Buy or Costco; employees bring their own interpretations regarding policies. We have found AAFES more reasonable than any other retailer when handling our purchasing issues.
