My son, a truck driver ,laid down $500 to rent a 72' tv only to learn a week later that he was losing his job because the company was shut down by the DOT so my son promptly gets another job in ND paying a lot more money and he has to move that next day. I call Aaron's and tell them he is going to have to return the TV LONG before the next payment is due ( he paid over 2 months in advance) and they REFUSED to give any refund at all out of that $500!! What a rip off! a scam! criminals is all I can say! and they put that very same TV back out and resold it for the same amount! They were $500 richer and laughing all the way to the bank with that boys money... They are ALL the time taking advantage of people because they do not have the credit to go somewhere and buy! How does this company stay in business?

I totally agree with you about the fact that he didn't need that TV.. i'm still angry at him for going there in the first place. And no.. his credit is bad because the company he worked for Trinity Rail closed their doors after almost 100 years and left thousands out of work and unable to pay bills. I asked them to apply at lease some of the $500 to a credit to that or another store near where he moved to but they would not.. he had paid for 2 months and less than a month had passed on a 120 day same as cash. As far as the contract I can't tell you because regretfully I don't have it but what I do know is that it is wrong.. regardless.. he should at least get credit for the month he did not have the tv.. that was over $250. The boy has a lot to learn but that doesn't mean I should just sit and say nothing when I see something that does not seem right to me.
Thank you for your imput.

- Well your son doesn't NEED a 72" TV, heck I don't even have a 72" TV and I could actually afford getting one outright. There are plenty of decent 32"-36" TV's that for $500 he could have bought outright. With a good sale and some smart shopping he could probably even get a 42"(or bigger) TV. He CHOOSE to go to them because he wanted a bigger more expensive TV NOW. Perhaps these type of decisions are why he doesn't have decent credit to begin with. So in one respect if you want to wonder why these places exist, they exist because of people's greed.
As for the contract he signed. What does it say about refunds? If it says they will refund it then take the contract and show it to them. If the refuse to refund the money take them to court. Now, if the contract says they don't refund the money then perhaps another long talk with your son is in order as by signing the contract he agreed to the terms, and unless they held a gun to his head it was his choice.
One other thing to look at is that even though they won't give a refund, are they allowing him to apply the extra money as a credit toward another rental?
