I answered a fax that came through on my business for a corporate vacation deal to DisneyWorld and Daytona Beach for 99.00 per person. I upgraded and approved a 315.00 debit from my checking account, then sent a money order for 200.50 for the upgrade, booking fee and early travel fee. (This had to be sent overnight mail) I was told "upon receipt of your payment we will send you the necessary confirmation letters for check in and departure." We are supposed to leave 20 hours from now (it is a 12 hour drive) and we never received the confirmation. My husband and I both took 9 days off work for this "vacation."

We don't know whether to go try to locate this place or what. This company is very unprofessional--we don't know if it was a total ripoff or what at this point. I am totally stressed out over this and get a recording on the phone saying they will be open on Monday at 8 a.m. We were supposed to check in on Sunday.

On 4 previous phonecalls on Weekdays it sounded as if someone picked up and hung up and when I reached a real person the girl told me they were having phone trouble. Has anyone gotten satisfaction from this company or do I need a lawyer?

You may have been ripped off

AUTHOR: Pat - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 20, 2004

Sharon,

I hate to tell you this, but you may have been ripped off. A quick search of the online yellow pages shows no record of this company in Maitland.

At a minimum, since you are traveling this weekend, I would attempt to locate the company at the address given. Unfortunately, you may only find a row of PO boxes.

Not much you can do about the charge to your debit card (contact your bank anyway), but since you mailed them a money order (I hope it was via the US Postal Service and not FedEx or UPS) this would constitute mail fraud.

Next I would contact the Florida Attorney General's office and file a complaint. If you used the USPS to send the money order, you can also contact the Postmaster General and the FBI.

Curiously enough, I think I received the same fax at my place of business today (in Phoenix no less) and I did what I do with all such broadcast faxes. I called the number at the bottom to have our fax number removed, and promptly put the fax in the paper recycle bin.
