I hired All MY SONS from the Yellow Pages to put my belongings in storage for a couple of months. They picked my things up June 5 and returned them September 5. In October I received a letter from a law office in Delaware saying that the company had a flood in its warehouse in Ardley, NY, and was no longer in business. The letter requested that I pick up my belongings from the warehouse. As I had had my belongings delivered already, I disregarded the letter.
When I checked my delivered items, I discovered that some of my furniture was badly damaged -- some wood pieces hadn't been wrapped and had gouges. Some packed items were also damaged. A kitchen cupboard was full of mouse droppings.
But the most disturbing thing was that I am missing a box of valuable books, some of which are family heirlooms and are not replaceable. I also received a box of books that are not mine.
I phoned the attorney in Delaware to see if they could help me locate the owner of the books I got and to find my own books. The attorney told me that someone who was missing seven boxes of books had contacted her. To be helpful, she gave him my phone number but the box I had was not his.
The attorney offered to let me know if anyone should contact her about my missing books. However, she would not give me a list of the company's customers so I could contact them myself. In any case, she had only been given a list of people who had "stuff" in the warehouse (I had gotten the letter by mistake), and I need a list of all the customers after June 5, since one of them may have gotten my belongings and would have no way to contact anyone about it as the company is defunct.
This is where things stand. I want to recover my books if they are still in some other customer's possession, but there seems to be no company, no records, no office and no responsible person. If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
