We were living in San Francisco and decided to relocate to Florida for purposes of work.  We had all of our belongings in a storage unit since we moved out of our house and were staying in a small furnished apt. supplied by my company.

My husband contacted several moving companies and decided upon All State Van Lines since their quote was 10 cents per pound cheaper than the other moving companies.  We paid approx. $2500 for the deposit and set the delivery date range of 11/30 to 12/04.  This was written on the paperwork we signed.  We also informed the movers that they could pick up our belongings at any time since they were in a storage unit and were not being used.  We signed a form allowing them to go to the storage unit to take possession of our items.

So we thought everything was taken care of and we hit the road.  We were traveling from San Francisco to Florida with stops in SD to pick up a dune buggy and Pennsylvania to visit family over Thanksgiving.  During our road trip we received at least 5 phone calls per day with questions of where our items were, is the paperwork in order, when can they pick up the items and so forth.  We would speak to a different person every time and answer the same questions each time.

Then we received a phone call from someone questioning the weight of our items.  He stated that with all of his years of experience in the moving field he was positive that the weight of our items exceeded 10,000 pounds and demanded another $600 deposit to cover the cost.  My husband told him that we had a moving company place all of our belongings into the storage unit and they weighed the belongings and the weight was less than 10,000 pounds.  He refused to believe this and demanded the additional monies stating that if we were wrong they would be forced to leave some of our belongings behind and would have to make different arrangements for their delivery.  Well we paid the deposit because of course we wanted all of our belongings to be delivered.

So finally the moving company arrived at the storage unit to pick up our belongings.  The mover called my husband and said they had picked up all of the items and he would see us in two and one half weeks.  My husband said that was incorrect and the promised delivery date was the following week.  The mover stated "Oh yeah" and hung up.  Well the mover was right.  It is now December 8th and we are told we "might" be receiving our belongings around the 14th of December.

We were initially told that there was "flooding" and the driver could not drive - this was not true - we had just driven through the entire US without any issue and there was not any rain anywhere in the US.  Then we were told that they couldn't find a driver to transport our belongings.  The final LIE was that someone's belongings were in front of ours on the truck and they didn't have the money to pay to unload their belongings - I laughed out loud at this one!!!

Another big surprise was that All State Van Lines does not even have a license to move any belongings anywhere!!!  They are a broker and will hire out the move.

Now we have a house that we rented that we cannot live in because we do not have our belongings.  We are paying for a hotel and eating out every meal - we cannot afford this for much longer and are at our wits end. If you do not want a nightmare with your move, do your research - do not hire All State Van Lines!!!
