Allegiant Air No money back refunds with trip flex, Voucher only good for so long, no customer service Las Vegas, Nevada

We purchased ticket to Maui for 30 days which included a car rental total amount of people traveling was 6.  We purchased at the time, Trip flex.  Since the booking on June 9th 2012, the family has become very ill and unable to travel (when I say Ill I am referring to surgeries, chemo etc... for 2 family members)  We were forced to cancel the trip due to the family illness and doctors stating we cant travel due to health reasons.  We canceled the trip and we were issued a credit only valid until 1 year after the day of travel and attempted to get a refund however no dice.  No where at the time of booking does it state we cant get a refund however credit voucher it was.  We wrote a letter of compassion explaining the circumstances and how no matter what we can do, we can't fly, we cant travel no matter what.  Their response was a pleasant sorry we cant refund your money and we cant extend your voucher ticket for any reasons.  Basically when it is all said and done we can't travel and therefore we will loose our almost $9000.00 worth of pre paid travel with this fly by night company.  

We supplied the airline with notes from doctors etc... and its just short of criminal that a company can take a position of sorry no refunds, no extentions based on these circumstances.  To compound matters worse, dont try and book anything as I have tried to call for days to no avail.  The operator continues to say that there are to busy and call back later.  I would never ever ever even refer this company to my worst enemy as any airline which will take your money, charge you insurance to make changes and cancel however doesn't answer the phone.  If you search more info on this company you will see I am not the only one.  Knowing what I know now about this company I would never have booked and it looks like even if I could use my voucher getting hold of anyone is impossible.  Its a scam, its dishonest, its crazy to think that we book a holiday in advance so you can also book holidays with work and business and now being forced to travel at a time not only can we not travel due to health but also we could never book the the time off.  ABSOLUTE scam and beyond reason.  

Let's hope that in the end its people vs Allegiant Air cause google it and you will see I am not the only one faced with challanges like this.
