I have a pre-paid cell phone account with Alltel. On 11/26/09 I contacted Alltel to upgrade my account to a monthly national plan. That is when my nightmare began. Since then,  I have been on the phone for over 6 hours, 3 days, with over 2 dozen individual Alltel reps. The first rep asked for my SS#, birthdate, drivers licence, and after I gave him this info, he hung up. He had a heavy Indian accent and I figured he was only wanting to confirm my identity. In retrospect, I think it is possible he is attempting to steal my identity.

The next rep, told me that the new account was set up. When I made a call, my phone was not working. The next 5 reps ALL booted me back to the voice menu, only to have to start over. Six more reps, who all went through the same procedure, told me that my new account is now activated, and each time I found it was not.

I was told by another rep that both my pre-paid and post-paid accounts were active. When I tried to log in to pre-paid, I found that my account had been drained and there was a negative balance. I had made no calls.

Another rep told me to register for a new account for postpaid, and I was, for a moment, able to see that I had been signed up for a more expensive plan other than the one I requested. The next rep said she changed it back, told me to log out and log back in. I logged back in and the account said that my phone number was inactive and invalid. I logged into my pre-paid account and it also now said that my account was invalid.

Then my phone worked again but am unable yo see what plan I'm on, if any.
My voicemail password also was changed by alltel, and I am unable to change it because alltel says online, that I don't have an account.

I am now fearful that the alltel rep who had the heavy Indian accent has stolen my identity as alltel said they don't ask for driver lisence # and only the last 4 SS #.

The alltel reps have shown that they are thoroughly incompetent and have no clue as to how to perform simple service requests.
