To Whom it may concern

If you want to keep your money in your pocket. Don't select alltel as your cell phone provider. I had Alltel about 2 years ago and What happened to me can happen to you. After having Alltel for over a year it came home to me. My son loaned out my phone and over a 3 month period I ended up with a $2,000.00 cell phone bill. One of the problems with theses kind of plans is that they don't offer you a cutoff limit and they won't shut down your phone for nonpayment.

My son was paying the bill. I got blindsided. According to Pc Magazine dated Octobert 15, 2002 Alltel is at the bottom of the list of Cell Phone providers. Want to make a statement email Wal-Mart and tell them to get Alltel out of their store. One thing I can offer is if you give your child a phone. Get one that is prepayed. It will cost you a lot less and insure you of a piece of mind.
Cost is 25 cents a minute and 50 Cents for roaming. Alltel is Twice that if your over the limit.

Cell Phone Plans are more are less a ripoff. Can you think of anything else that you pay for that is use it or lose it. Think of how you buy things. You pay for what you get. I think this should apply to Cell phones also. They started this and its up to the consumer to let them know we want a change. If anyone would like to see my Alltel billing, send me your email address. I will send you a copy of my bill in a attachment. For you folks that don't have a good plan. Go to Sams club and get yourself a Phone card from you know who! XXX

Thanks

#2 UPDATE Employee

You LOANED the phone out

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 18, 2002

They key phrase you stated is your son LOANED they phone to a person for 3 MONTHS. As with credit cards, the USER is responsible for all authorized minutes whether is it by the person on the contract or not.

You never reported the phone stolen so Alltel
assumed that everything was OK. They might have
thought for some reason, you were going over for
the month.

All cell phone companies give you a minimum bucket
of minutes in your contract with the max being as
high as the sky. If they gave you a set max bucket of minutes, you would see ripoffs saying "I only needed to place an emergency call but I maxed out my minutes so they cut my phone off" The current system works for the majority of customers.

Comparison-wise, cell phones under contract are a
much better deal costing between $0.01 and $0.04
per minute as long as you don't exceed your bucket
of minutes. I have an Alltel plan and the current
overage rates are $0.35 per minute and $0.59 per
minute for roaming. I am not saying my plan is
problem-free but this original posting is not Alltel's fault. You didn't notice in months 1, 2, or 3 when your bill was higher than normal?

Pre-paid phones are good when you have bad credit
or you don't want to go over a set number of minutes.

In exchange, the rates are much higher.
Be careful with phone cards because just searching
on this site will yield hundreds of bad results.

If you don't want $2000 phone bills, keep better
track of your cell phone. Alltel didn't give your
phone to somebody, you (or a family member) did.
