I opened up an American Express Serve account and was notified by e-mail on February 3, 2014 that the account had been closed because of a failure to comply with 15E of the terms and conditions. Upon review of the terms and conditions, 15E states that American Express reserves the right to close the account at any time but does not list for what reasons. "e. Suspension of Use; Cancellation; Closure. We, in our sole discretion, may limit your use of, suspend or terminate your privileges with respect to your Account (including your Reserve), Sub-Account, Card and/or Sub-Account Card with or without cause or notice, other than any notice required by Applicable Law. We will only close your Account if there are no funds remaining in your Account (including your Reserve) or Sub-Account, unless you specifically instruct us to close your Account or Sub-Account with funds remaining, in which case, any remaining funds will be escheated to the applicable state in accordance with Applicable Law. Closure of your Account will prohibit your access to the Service. If we decide to close or suspend use of your Account or Sub-Account (which closure will result in termination of your privileges with respect to the associated Card and/or Sub-Account Card), we will send an email to the primary email address we have in our records for you. Upon closure of your Account and/or Sub-Account (and termination of your privileges with respect to the associated Card and/or Sub-Account Card), you must immediately discontinue use of your Account and/or Sub-Account and associated Card and/or Sub-Account Card, as applicable. Our closure of your Account and/or Sub-Account (and termination of your privileges with respect to the associated Card and/or Sub-Account Card) will not affect your obligations under this Agreement." I called customer service to inquire about the closure and was advised to review 15E of the terms and conditions with no additional details. I asked the representative, what happens to pending transactions? The representative said that the account is "closed" and that once all transactions have been posted, the remaining funds would be sent to me. But the second paragraph of Section 9 of the terms and conditions states "9. Closing your Account. Upon closure of your Account or Sub-Account, we will use reasonable efforts to cancel all pending transactions (subject to Applicable Law) and send you a final closing transaction statement for your Account." I quoted that back to the representative word for word and after several holds and request to speak with a supervisor was told that no assistance could be provided to me because the account was closed. If i wanted to speak with a supervisor then I could leave my contact information and one will call me back in 24-48 hours. I left my contact information but further explained that I simply wanted the pending transactions to be cancelled specifically a transaction for $1000 to Thompson Hyundai. And that the transaction could not be reversed once it posts to the account. Again, no assistance could be provided to me.

Bill Pay

AUTHOR: Iney - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, March 26, 2016

Please report back how this turned out. I had my income tax direct deposit to my Serve card but could not pay bills using it so I had to revert back to using my bank (USAA)-the best. I'm trying to retrieve funds now for a bill pay AMEX Serve says cleared but the merchant rejected. This was the second time this happen as I tried to pay my Verizon bill with it. Twice tried to use it in Walmart, krogers, and publix and it wouldn't take my card. Each time I called customer service they would tell me I had more than enough and they didn't know why. Frustrating to say the least. So while I'm disputing trying to get my funds back from the bill pay, I'm having to withdraw my my money via Ria...smh...i should have did more research before signing up for this card. You can go on their FB page and read similar horror stories. Hindsight 20/20...

Very good effort at misdirection...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 04, 2015

I give you about an A- for your attempt to misdirect with all of your fluff.  As it actually took to the last few sentences of your entire "RipOff" to get to the real issue.

I left my contact information but further explained that I simply wanted the pending transactions to be cancelled specifically a transaction for $1000 to Thompson Hyundai

- Now, for someone who is totally shocked as to why their account was closed.  It is very odd that you would want them to cancel a Pending Transaction to a business as well.

As you see if everything was on the "Up and Up", when you made that transaction you would have to believe that your account would remain open AND that you had the $1000 available to use.  But if that was the case there is NO reason for you to want to cancel the tranasction after the fact and just let it run it's course and be paid to the dealer.  That is unless you figured that since AmEx was "screwing" you, you would turn around and "screw" another business.

Or perhaps you truly didn't have the $1000 and that is why they closed your account.  Perhaps you let the dealer run the $1000 with no intention of paying it and tried some fraudlent story to AmEx causing them to close the card.

Not any of those..okay so what is whole story?
