The Bluebird reloadable debit card from American Express may be good if you can activate it.  That stopped me right there, as soon as I got home from the Walmart where I bought it.

As soon as I typed in the required information for Step 1: Activate, the screen stalled out and informed me that the number and code for the card were not active.  I returned it to the Walmart and they tried to activate it without success.

I called the Customer Service number several times.  Once they claimed that they had a system issue and that it would be fixed that same day, but when I took the card back to Walmart it would not activate and load, even when I had cash ready.

After calling Bluebird again they fell back on insisting that I had to have a receipt number.  I had already provided a receipt number with previous calls.

I have worked in Customer Service myself and I know that the Bluebird consultants are poorly trained and they do not have the technical permissions to solve problems with the card.  They also lied to me about the system issue.

Long story short: this is a useless card as far as I am concerned.  I have other prepaid debit cards that work perfectly well.  You are wasting five dollars if you try Bluebird.
