I called AE on April 1st asking them to issue my refund check of ~900.  They said they would do so immediately and I would receive in next 4-7 days. I was very patient and waited. No check arrived.  I am in dire need of this check

Over 2 weeks later, I called again and spent nearly 30 minutes on the phone. They agreed to put a stop on the first check and re-issue a 2nd.  (The first still has not even arrived btw).  I asked if they could expedite the check however they stated that this does not fall under their expedited policy.  I felt that this was ridiculous given taht I had already waited nearly 3 weeks, yet I had no choice.

Now over a week has passed since that call and there is no check. The first with a stop on it never arrived. The second is not here.

I called AGAIN (which is difficult given my strenuous schedule as a physician). I spoke to Superviser Eric 38683 and he said there is nothing he can do and blamed it on US mail. I have ordered many things on line and it never takes so long to arrive in the continental United States.

I asked if he could expedite and he stated the rules under which that could happen and said he could not do so in this case. I told him that there are always ways to make things happen and that in this case, I expect the check to be here within 48h. I am in dire need, I have been a loyal customer who pays my entire bill each month.  Yet no solution.

At this point, I would like to cancel my card with American Express after this check arrives. I explained I am in a dire situation where the check is needed asap. I have waited a month. There is no reason a check should take so long.

I needed something from citicard and they expedited overnight, free of charge, (their own idea) the other week.

I hope someone can assist me in getting AE to expedite the check. Everyday for a month I have waited and it seems it is being brought over by a pigeon flying across the country.

I believe there were ways to be flexible and authorize an expedited shipment of the check to me given the inconvenince they caused, the patience I have demonstrated, the time I have had to spend calling them (~30min/time), and further that I explained I am in a situation where the check needs to be in my hands asap.

Please help

Apples and Oranges

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, April 27, 2015

You can call it judgemental if you want.  But that doesn't take away the fact that you were trying to infer that AE was wrong because another company sent you "something" in 24 hours.  So of course you don't like it that someone questioned it and called you out on it.  The fact is that you can not compare having a replacement card sent to you and having a check sent to you for a credit balance.

You don't say how long you had this credit balance, but most companies will not issue you a balance until the end of the billing cycle where the credit actually shows up on their statement.   So while it may be inconvienient for you, this is not really a RipOff.   The only valid complaint you may have is that they apparently told you that you would get the check sooner than you actually will.  However, if they told you the real time in the beginning that really doesn't make it any less "convieneint" for you.

There is still something with this "dire" need and why you can't just use this credit card balance instead of waiting for a check.  But again that is your own business.

Judgmental; however, your responses are as follow

1) For citi, I just neeed a card re-issued and they sent it over night

2) Yes, in this particular time, I have come across some issues that make that AE refund check important.

3) I do not use the AE card very often so to keep it on credit tehre would take months for me to spend enough to reach that amount.  That is why I requested a check. It was a refund on a cancelled item and rather than have the credit sit there, I asked that the check be mailed. THis should not take 1 month and 3-4 calls.

Your response is a bit rude and judgmental.

Dire Need?

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, April 26, 2015

Something seems a bit odd here. First of all you are a physician and apparently a pretty busy one since you have such a hectic schedule.  So it is odd that why you would be in such a dire need to get a refund check of almost $1000 from AE.  Not only that but apparently AE is not the only one who owes you refunds as you did the same thing with Citibank.

Of course your personal finances are your own business.  But when you post a story like this on a Public site it can make one wonder how much of this is "fluff" and what the real story is here.  For example you stated you needed "something" from Citibank, you didn't say it was a refund or if it was for how much or the situation.

Then it comes down to exactly what this is a "refund" of.  Did you overpay(by $900?) and just want the money back where you can't use it as a credit toward future purchases.  Is it some company that you returned an item and they gave you a $900+ credit?  Perhaps what ever this dire need is you could have used your AE card to pay for some(all?) of it.  If you did overpay, exactly how did you make a $900 mistake and just a short time later you are all of the sudden in a dire need?
