Received a call the day after activating a new Applied Card Bank Visa. The called identified herself as being from Applied Card Bank, so we accepted the call. It was my husband's card, so I passed the phone to him.
The caller (Indian accent, female) told my husband she wanted to "verify" his account information. She read off his name, address, age, to which he replied "yes, yes, yes".... Then she asked for his birthday. He hesistated, but provided. THEN she asked for the FIRST FOUR OF HIS SOCIAL SEC #.

We stopped the call and asked why she needed this info. She claimed it was for verifying the account. My husband told her she already had that info if she was at ACB, and that he would not provide it on the phone. She became very aggressive, assuring my husband that this is required to have the new credit card. We responded with "Fine, let's cancel the account then". We asked for a supervisor, and what do you know... they were "busy" and she ended the call abruptly when we asked again to cancel the card.

Immediately after hanging up, we called the Customer Service number on the back of the new credit card, and got a very helpful rep named Barbara on that line. She said NO, they had NOT called us, and they would never ask for that info on the phone. She was very nice and cancelled the account immediately, wiping out any account origination fees as well since the card was never used.

I am trying to get back in touch with ACB today and talk to their Fraud department. Will update later.
FYI, do NOT use this company. Their history is deplorable. We feel fortunate we got a GOOD rep on the phone when we wanted to cancel and that they were agreeable, but after more research online it appears this was a miracle since noramlly they will try to collect the shirt off your back.
