My husband was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2012, when we moved to Kansas we had to switch medical supply companies and Apria was suggested by our family doctor office. We filed our first claim for supplies October 7 2015. To start off he asked for LG and XL wisps they send MED and LG. Didn't even fight it just let it be. Then we received the first bill it was around $150 I called about it because it sayed self pay when we were doubled insured. The lady I spoked with was very nice, she told me there was actually no balance. OK a few months go by.

Now I have a new bill for $500+, still says self pay. Has a charge for maintenance fee of over $100 when they have never touched his machine. I call billing again and add both insurance companies AGAIN. My husband went to the local office they removed the random maintenance fee. Next month a $490.76 bill and has 1 insurance company on it. At this point they are calling my husbands phone everyday trying to collect money. I spoke with a supervisor told them my insurance paid, stop calling us or I would file a harrasment report. I had already received my EOB from United Healthcare/Tricare so I knew what they paid and my patient responsibility was $183.27.  

I called customer service this time I calmly explained that I had my EOB they still didn't charge my other insurance company which is my primary insurance (Blue Cross Fed Employee). She kept telling me we have nothing showing anyone paid you are under selfpay. We went back and forth for over a hour finally I 3-way called UHC they explained to her that they paid. UHC went back and forth with her. At this point my insurance company is also frustrated. She puts us on hold for 15 mins and all of a sudden comes back oh we see the payment it was put into a different area because you were orginally under self pay. We will figure this all out and call you back. That was May 20, 2016. My insurance company has that entire conversation recorded.

Now I have a bill for $341.53. in July I received my EOB from Blue Cross they have now been billed and paid. Now they are the only insurance company on my bill. I haven't added up my patient responsibility from them because my secondary insurance should pick up the remaining balance. (their words) However, Apria has never notified UHC that they charged BCBS. They charged both the same amount and are still trying to charge me $341.53!

Today we get a call.... COLLECTIONS! Let me throw it out there, we are lucky enough to have amazing credit and are supposed to be buying a new home in the next couple months. I will now be seeking legal council. My insurance company believes they are balance billing me and that's illegal add them charging both insurance companies the same amount. Since i have bill's, date's and names of people I've spoken to, call records, EOB's, and recorded conversations that my insurance company will provide, I think I have a pretty good case. Stay far away. If you are in Illinois I highly suggest looking into Illinois Sleep Provider.
