Art Van Warranty IS A SCAM- DO NOT PURCHASE! ART VAN FRAUD, ART VAN SCAM, ART VAN WARRANTY SCAM, DETROIT Michigan

Simple story - 

I purchased a couch and love seat from Art Van 4.5 years ago and purchased the 5 year warranty.  I have an 8ft couch and the frame broke and the fabric is pulling away and tearing at the seams.   This is the exact reason I bought the warranty.....so I thought.   This is where the fraud and scam that Art Van furniture and Art Van Elslander begins or should I say ends.  It started with the sales rep selling/lying to me about the warranty and what the add-on warranty covers.

I am sure this how the process goes for 95% of the warranty customers goes so take notes so you do not get scammed by Art Van Elslander and his company.

Step 1: Call Art Van service to initiate a warranty claim

Art Van reply:  We have to send someone out to evaluate

Art Van on site: oh....well for us to evaluate you need to have the couch cleaned first? HUH? getting fishy (Red flag#1 couldnt find in art van warranty where it says it has to cleaned for them to evaluate)

Art Van does couch cleanings for $350.00 (I am sure you do, this is the first step for them to not deliver on their service, they figure most wont pay to get the furniture cleaned to keep the claim process moving forward)

Step 2: Got couch cleaned and call art van for follow up appointment

Art Van comes out:  Evaluates frame with out taking any fabric off says yep its broke, agrees the cusions have been broken down significantly and the fabric is tearing away at seams.  Did not take bottom off to check joints or the break, simply gave it the eyeball test.  (Red flag #2) (why did I have to get it clean if you didn't even touch it?)  Tells us 2 important things here, well this is going to be an expensive for us to fix, not sure what we would do because it would need to be fixed and reupolstered.... but you are getting close to the end of your warranty. (HUH? red flag #3, warranty nowhere says coverage goes down towards end).   Repair guy says I got to call my supervisor, talks with him for 20 minutes and says ok here is a number for you to call tomorrow to get info on your claim.  Inspection over.

Step 3: Call the service number.

Art Van Reply:  We evaluated and it was determined you broke the frame, the board broke in a downward motion.  (Red Flag #4).  So with out inspecting the unit from the bottom or removing fabric you were able to evaluate the 8 foot long frame board was broken in a downward motion?  Even though in the back the fabric is being pushed outward with little splinters coming out?  We will give you a partial credit to buy something new.   I continue to question, how can he tell it was broke downward?  His years of expertise they are factory trained!  LOL.  

So I had to pay for it to get cleaned which absolutely wasnt necessary (warrant claim deterrent), now I get a partial credit but I have to pay for delivery so they can pick up the old coach so knocks another $100 off the credit so after paying for a coach and purchasing the warranty, when the frame gives out I receive a $400 store credit on an 1800.00 couch.  SCAM Alert Do not buy the Warranty!!
