I went to Ashley Furniture on Ray Road in Phoenix, AZ.  I bought a dresser, nightstand and mattress and box spring from them.  The mattress and box spring spew TOXIC off-gassing which fills my house and everyone can notice. It irritates my bronchial tubes and causes nasal allergies.

Within TEN DAYS of buying the mattress, completely unused the off-gassing was still so bad I called to return the mattress. They sent out some lame a*s fellow who visited, smelled the toxic off-gassing, said it was "normal" and suggested I put even MORE toxic dryer sheets in the mattress to hide the nasty toxic off-gassing with nice smelling dryer sheet toxic off-gassing.  He then turned his report into Ashley's who said since I did not call within three days, and the problem was not within warranty, I am stuck with the bed. They won't return it.  Obviously, the whole lame a*s furniture guy was a kangaroo court as they simply stated that "due to health reasons" they could not accept the return of the mattress, even though apparently "health reasons" allow them to return it the first three days, (just not after ten). Yeah, right.

My opinion--Ashley Furniture SUCKS. Never shop there.  It's all about money and customer service stinks, like their beds. They don't return anything after three days. They sell TOXIC mattresses which will stink up your home with off-gassed chemicals.
To me, they are the worst furniture store in the world.  AVOID THEM!  DO NOT SHOP AT THEM!

Follow-Up To Ashley Report

AUTHOR: Mona - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 08, 2009

Okay, to be honest, I was a little rash writing that previous report. I went on-line and learned that all mattresses since 2007 need to have nasty, toxic chemicals put on them by government law to make them anti-inflammable.   Ashley's merely sells these toxic mattresses; they don't warn folks about the out-gassing, but they aren't responsible for the chemicals.

I do believe that having only a THREE DAY return period is only for the benefit of Ashley's and not the consumer.  However, upon me expressing my discontent, and even though Ashley's refused to return the mattresses--stating an Arizona State Law disallows them to resell a ten day old unused mattress--they have actually been very good in trying to help me as they can.

Customer service has called me several times--how often does that happen?  That's frankly impressive.  They have said they will exchange my mattress set for another set, which very likely may smell much less, or I can exchange my set for a whole different style of set. I have to say I think their several calls and their desire to make me happy within their guidelines is admirable and I want to amend my previous report to have folks know that Ashley's is not that bad aside from their very short return period.  They DO seem to care about customers and overall they've really turned my mind around about what happened.  Only one customer service rep simply hung up on me, which is unfathomable rude, but the others have listened and called back with answers.   I think I was too impulsive with my previous report on them, and hope that if folks read my first comment they then read this second one.

I would suggest that you do shop at Ashley's, being aware of their short return period.
