August 2003, I purchased a AT&T GPM Cell Phone from a store inside BJs, Eastpoint, GA. Salesman (Kareem). Phone did not pick Signal, twice I was given a AT&T GPM phone by Kareem and returned both phones immediately.

Third time I was given a Cingular Cell Phone by Kareem. The AT&T account was to be cancelled by Kareem in August while I was at the store. I asked for a receipt and was told that the system was busy and Kareem would keep trying to get through to AT&T.

September 2003, I recieved a AT&T bill. Called AT&T, Rep: Justin, I made numerous calls to AT&T, they could not find the Account: 0035185170 nor phone#404-435-8636. I made numerous trips to BJs and was told by Kareem that he had closed the AT&T account. Spoke with BJs Supervisor, 4 ocassions, reference AT&T account. BJs Supervisor called phone number in reference to account from their store, the number was out-of-service.

my credit card bank investigated and determined they would give me the refund and go after AT&T themselves

AUTHOR: Sheila - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 26, 2004

I too was ripped off by AT&T wireless. However, thanks to my credit card company, I did not lose any money.

I ordered a cell phone after receiving a letter from AT&T. Since in the past, AT&T did not provide service in my area, I was skeptical. I spoke with several people at AT&T and all assured me that their system had been upgraded and I could get service. Even their web site indicated I was within service range.

I get the phone and am told to turn it on and it will activate itself. Nothing happened. After numerous calls, several techs tried to help and it was finally determined that the phone could not be activated in my area. I was told "drive to Philadelphia and ride around for a few hours. It will activate then.

I told them I wanted to return the phone and get my money back. Their ad said a 30 day money back guarantee. I was told they would send a shipping label and RMA #. A week goes by and nothing. I call again and am told it was sent but they will send another. Another week and same story. I was told if I simply sent back the phone without the authorization #(which they would not give over the phone) my account would not be credited. I kept calling and kept being told - it is in the mail. Eventually, the 30 days pass and now I receive a letter saying that since the phone was not returned in the 30 day time period, I was out of luck. Letters, calls did nothing.

Fortunately, I had paid via a credit card and although it took awhile, my credit card bank investigated and determined they would give me the refund and go after AT&T themselves.
