When signing for a new contract, AT&T through one of the vendors offered a promotion on the Internet Service of $10 a month for the length of the contract. After 6 months into the service, AT&T bumped up the charges to $15 without notifying or getting my consent. After 3 months of increased charges and noticing the bump in my cell phone bill, when I called they said that they sent a text message about this discrepancy but I never remembered getting it. They also mentioned that per the contract that I signed they have the right to make any corrections as they seem necessary and they dont need my consent. If I wanted to cancel the contract, then I would be charged the cancellation fee and they can charge the additional $5 for the 6 months that they provided at a discounted rate. The Tech supervisor was rude and also mentioned that per the contract I dont have the right to sue since I have acknowledged I will go through a arbitrator in case of any issues.

Their code of ethics suggests that they would treat their customers fairly but to me this is a violation since they did not have the courtesy to call and check with me before making changes to the terms and conditions of the contract. I am pretty sure that this is standard practice and others are affected by this and are probably unaware or dont know how to take action against the corporate giant.

In total Agreement

AUTHOR: Customer_Rep_27 - (United States of America)

What you said about AT&T outsourcing to other companies for about $9/hr, is totally on the money. I worked for one in Northern OH, this company was called StarTek. They did they same things. I know it is easy to get irritated and frustrated with the rep on the other end, but the training we received was minimal and pointless, spent 3 days on the history of the cell phone. Customers get frustrated when they can't get a straight answer from the rep, but the rep can't tell them because they have not had the training for it. This company does not care about its employees, they had an agreement with the state that for every single new hire they brought in, they would receive $14,000 for "training purposes", and they stated themselves it only cost around $4,000 for training, the rest was pure profit for StarTek. The biggest joke though? You know when you call an 800 number and you hear the recording that this call my be monitored for "quality assurance purposes"? Well they were, all call were recorded and 3 were graded for quality each month. Wanna know where StarTek's quality dept was? Makati City, Phillipines. They don't speak English but they are grading calls for quality? What sense does that make? Please, when you call customer service, please don't get angry with the reps, who probably are not corporate AT&T, are people just like you trying to make a living and and deal with the poor, almost nonexistent training provided by the company.

Something everyone should know about AT&T

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

When you call AT&T to have a problem resolved, chances are you are not going to talk to an actual AT&T employee, you'll be talking to someone that works in one of AT&T's numerous $9 an hour sweatshops.  AT&T has been heavily outsourcing jobs since the 90's, and at this point I don't even know if AT&T has any actual employees left.  One such sweatshop is located in Arnold, Missouri, about 15 miles outside of St Louis, and is run by a company called Convergys, who has call centers all over the world(and probably pays about $1.50 an hour in its offices in India and other foreign countries).  Anyway, their job is to offer people free credits and rollover minutes if they are wanting to cancel their service.  The problem with this is that they have had several situations where employees have copied customer's credit card numbers and sold them, and have walked out of the office with all kinds of personal information that could be damaging to the customers whose info they have.  I believe that paying people in theis country $9 an hour in this day and age is every bit as exploitative as paying people 50 cents an hour in the third world countries.  It's a win-win situation for AT&T, because they save millions in labor costs, so they can award huge bonuses to their executives, it's a great deal for Convergys, because they're getting all this money from AT&T and only paying their employees $9 an hour.  It's the employees that are really paying for this, because they are getting paid poverty level wages and AT&T and Convergys both know this and they couldn't care less.  The next time you call AT&T, ask the person if they really work for AT&T, or if they just work at an outsource company.  And don't ever go to an AT&T retail store to have a problem solved, because if you're not there to buy a new I-phone, they don't even want to look at you.
