AT&T Wireless ripoff Early termination fees not disclosed West Des Moines Iowa

I bought my plan and phone at the AT&T booth, then located at Sams Club (not there now, thankfully) and had terrible service from the beginning. We could never get a signal, but i needed the phone because i was travelling quite a distance every day with my daughter for her daycare and my schooling.

We finally got sick of it and decided to end the service and get a different plan with a different company since none of our paperwork had any signatures, let alone anything about early termination fees. And believe me, i read them over and over.

When we called to cancel service we were told that since there was still 7 months on the "contract" we would owe $175!!! My jaw dropped and i asked where that came from since we never signed anything. I was told that by paying the first bill, i agreed to the conditions of the "contract" that i'd never seen.

We suspended service for 4 months while deciding whether or not we could afford $175 to terminate, the whole time i went without a phone. We are far from rich people, but we decided it was the only thing we could do. We cancelled and we paid.

We went to U.S. Cellular and were told up-front about early termination fees and such, and that theirs is prorated to what time of the contract you use' you go half the contract, you pay half the fee. We've got great service now, never without a signal, and we're comfortable knowing where we stand with fees and payments. Thanks U.S. Cellular and boo to AT&T!! You'll never see a face in there that i know, believe me!
