tires that new should not be subject to dry rottiing. it seems to me that you had some old tires in the wharehouse you needed to get rid of and you sold them . now becouse you sold him junk he needed to buy new tires,and you did not want take care of your custumer and he went some where else. to note i have had the same tires on my 95' f150 with well over 200k miles for 5 years and no singh of dry rot!

Regarding the complaint by Brian Lott;

On November 20th 2008 Brian Lott brought his 2000 Ford Taurus to our facility for a Missouri Vehicle Safety and Emissions test, as well as a tire rotation. The vehicle failed the MVI Safety inspection due to, among other things, loose lower ball joints. One front tire was worn down to what we refer to as under tread, or the layer of rubber below the tread that should be in contact with the road. The front tire wear was indicative of misalignment, possibly due to the loose lower ball joints, worn bald on the inside edge and tapering to the outside edges. The rear tires had cracks throughout the tread, with some usable tread remaining.

I had the opportunity to speak to Mr. Lott about his tire wear and general conditions when he took his car on November 20th. During our conversation Mr. Lott asked about Autotire replacing the tires under warranty. I told me Lott that the front tires were worn due to a mechanical defect with his car, and that no tire manufacturer would be willing to warranty them. The cracks in the rear tires may be covered by the manufacturer warranty, and that I could call Michelin to see what they would be willing to do.

Mr. Lott dropped his Taurus off on November 25th for us to try to warranty his tires. Luke Zinn called Michelin Consumer Relations with the facts of Mr. Lott's' tire condition:
Left Front Tire inside to out: 4/32'' 5/32'' 6/32'' cracks in tread and choppy wear.
Right Front Tire inside to out: 0/32'' 4/32'' 6/32'' cracks in tread, and bald.
Left Rear Tire inside to out: 6/32'' 6/32'' 6/32'' a few cracks in tread, choppy wear, and flat.*
Right Rear Tire inside to out: 5/32'' 6/32'' 7/32'' some cracks, choppy wear.

Michelin offered a 25% customer satisfaction warranty for the tires. Luke informed Mr. Lott of this concession, and we left the repair order open pending a decision from Mr. Lott.

On December 3rd 2008 the Taurus was brought back by a lady for re-inspection. It was at this time that we discovered the tires had been replaced with another brand.

i just dont understand how acording to them that my ball jounts void dry roting on all 4 tires that have less than 20,000 miles and are less that 4 years old?

They are an integral part of the lower control arm. As such, you must replace the control arm if the ball joint is worn out.

In reality, I have never seen one wear out in less with less than 200K miles on it. The rear joints are pretty durable, and don't move much, unlike the front ones.
