I bought a bad boy mower this spring. The one I purchased would not drive straight so the salesman replaced it with another.
After a few weeks of mowing I hit a stump in the yard I normally mow over. I looked at the deck height and noticed it had dropped a whole inch. I decided to keep an eye on it, and it dropped each time I mowed.
I called Capitol Equipment where I bought it and arranged for it to be picked up since I don't own a trailer. They picked it up and returned it two weeks later. It was still broke.
I borrowed a horse trailer "the only kind I could get", and carried it back to Capitol Equipment the next Saturday. I explained to them what happened, and they said they would fix it. I returned two weeks later, picked it up and carried it home. It was still broke!
I borrowed the horse trailer again, and went back to Capitol Equipment the next Saturday. I dropped it off again, and told them I wasn't happy with this mower and wanted a replacement. They said they would talk to Bad Boy mowers and call me the first of the next week. They never called.
My mower was fixed two weeks later and I went to pick it up (borrowed the horse trailer again). This time I mowed in front of Capitol Equipment for thirty minutes before loading it up. It was still broke. The salesman got on and mowed with it and confirmed it was still broke!
I told them again that I wanted a mower that would work. and they told me they would talk to Bad Boy Mowers about getting mine replaced. I was told that I could bring my mower back up to Capitol Equipment and they would really fix it this time. I didn't have access to a trailer anymore, and couldn't carry it up there. So I picked up the part they had ordered to put on and replaced it myself. I was still broke.
I ended up finding the problem myself (it was a toggle switch)and am currently looking for a replacement switch.
It is a shame you spend over $5000 on a mower and end up with a knee deep yard all summer, and having to work on it yourself.
P.S. They never gave me a reciept for working on my mower so it is pretty much my word against theirs. Pretty convenient huh?

I have to agree on the miss use of the machine, I am thinking about a badboy mower. I own a husky mower right now that is 14 years old and I have done things with this mower that I should not have. BUT when it breaks I dont blame the mower, Its MY fault. I have ran over logs, stumps, even plowed the tops of hills with it while mowing, ( it is very ABUSED ) but when it breaks I fix it, I dont go out complaining the the store where I bought it nor do I complain to the manufacturer.
If you expect to MIS-USE a piece of equipment then you have to expect it to break. I put my Kabota tractor through the grinder as well and if it breaks I will fix it but I have to work it hard thats what it built for but I also maintain it as well. I dont intensionally try to kill them but things happen. Stop crying, if you dont expect thing to go wrong when you do what you shouldnt do then park it in the shed and open the door once in a while to show your friends you have one. AND IT WILL STILL BE PERTY TOO.

Bad Boy Mowers ???

I bought a brand new 2013 Bad Boy mower.. First I noticed paint missing and damage on every BadBoy mower at the dealer. Then the 54" model only has a 2gallon gas tank. Plastic pullies, Sand paper thin grip foot rest, Non adjustable seat, Vibration in metal around engine, Metal rod under seat would queak, Over idol because choke and trottle all in 1 adjustment. Mine came with 2 different wheels. One with grease fitting and the other not. The deck does not float and if you go into a ditch or uneven ground? The deck will dig into the ground. Deck height setting is not true.. 4.5 inch would give me a 2" cut or a tad bit shorter.
Would not steer straight, Bad boy customer service was bad, cocky and not very helpful. Battery sits directly on the body with no spill or battery box causing future problems with acid removing paint. If you raise the adjustment zero turn bars 1 inch they will become sloppy wiggle alot. When the mower is set at the notched throttle prefered setting from Badboy? It is so loud.. :( The precussion of the blades hard on the ears. For a Quote Commercial mower? I sold it before I hit 15hrs.. It was a piece of crap and luckly I found a idot to give me full price I paid.

You said others misread the story the originator of this complaint had written, but he said after the 1st problem they replaced the mower. Then the 2nd problem was he hit the stump and AFTER that he said the mower deck wouldn't stay up. Not the deck was down and then he hit the stump. If the deck kept dropping down whille he was mowing then he would have just hit the stump with the front of the deck enclosure.

I agree with the first gentleman that opened this post. I Have had nothing but problems with this mower in the eight months i have owned it, first of all its advertised as a commercial mower. I have a large residential yard and my Mower has broke down 4 times, Right transaxel, The mower deck actuator that raised the deck so i do not run over STUMPS, then the switch for raising the deck broke, well any way i understand things break but with a 1 year warranty and so many problems i thought they might give me an extended warranty or new mower as i am making payments for a new mower that is at this point a refurbished mower and they told me to take a hike. So in closing my advise if you plan to buy one of these mowers dont get rid of your old mower.
Thanks Jim

Its not the mower that has the problems its the dealer who sounds inept on working on them
I don't think it's an issue of the mower being junk. It's more of an issue of you shitty service and saleman ship from the dealer. These mowers are great mowers and have never let me or anyone I know down. It all comes down to the dealer. wether they knowingly know how to work on them and or are just selling them with no knowledge of service ability.

May I suggest some of you take a reading comprehension class. The original poster clearly stated he hit a stump he had been mowing over for a long time because the deck would not stay up. The decks on these mowers have an elecric motor to raise or lower, not the traditional pin-hole style. And the guy who states he"s been mowing 20 acres with his lawn mower, well, I have to lol to that. Fellas it boils down to what it always does......money. You cant expect a 5000. dollar machine to do what a 10000. dollar machine will, wont happen. I think for the money a bad boy is hard to beat, but its not even in the same league with say, a dixie chopper, but your not comparing apples to apples either, as the chopper in a 60in will set you back over 10k. Theres some really good ZTR"s out there these days, and as always, you get what you pay for.. RJ

Abuse, Not a machinery failure

When I read this report a few things jumped out at me. What the buyer said about the first mower not "going in a straight line" usually all that is needed to fix this little problem is a simple alignment of the steering levers. It was cool that the salesman just gave a different one to this person instead of just having someone adjust the first one, it saved buyer from having to wait for the repair.
The main issue I see is what happened to the tractor after the buyer damaged the tractor. I cannot believe that someone would drive over a stump while mowing and damage the tractor and then believe that it wasn't their fault. You cannot abuse a piece of machinery and then expect to get a new one for free, that is just plain crazy. If someone mowed over a piece of chain left out in the yard, or a stump, or a brick it is the users fault, you are supposed to walk over the area you are mowing first so you avoid this. To believe it is anything other than a case of operator error is wrong in my book, you must use safety and caution in your work.
For the buyer to believe that because they broke the machine and should now get a new one is a case of Entitlement Mentality and Entitlement Mentality is one of the worst problems with society today. For people to believe that they "Deserve" things from other people is completly absurd. This is what I believe at least!!!

Another Bad Boy Owner

I've owned a Bad Boy ZT for 2 years and it is, without question, the BEST mower I've ever had and I,m 61 years old. For this person I would recommend renting a stump grinder and stop blaming Bad Boy Mowers for his own stupidity. I ran over a 5in limb accidentally and my Bad Boy chewed most of it up,but wedged a big piece under the deck. I got it out and the mower kept on gettin' it. I have 20 acres to mow so I work this mower hard and it hasn't missed a lick in 2 years. It also cut my mowing time in half. I have e-mailed the Bad Boy Mowers numerous times and have always got a quick and helpful response. I have several friends that have Bad Boys as well and their experience is the same as mine. By the way, my deck height is rock solid when I mow. No variation unless I hit the switch.
I don't know what happen to this guy, but don't let this example stop you from buying a Bad Boy. It is the toughest built mower I've ever owned.
