There are many many reasons why I have a complaint with Bally's and the way they run their business, but I'm going to stick to the latest episode. I planned to move out of the US and according Bally's policy, if a member moves more than 25 miles away from a Bally's, then they are free to cancel the contract.

I went to my local gym and told them I was planning to move away and they printed out a personalized form (with my name and customer number, etc) and told me to send a copy of my plane tickets. I told them I had an e-ticket and that I could send them a reciept from my travel agent - then I showed them the reciept and they told me "thats fine." I sent this to them and went on with my move.

A month later, I checked my bank statement and found that Bally's deducted the monthly membership fee. I called them and they very rudely told me that I had not sent the right thing and that I need to send them a boarding pass, drivers license, utility bill, lease agreement, or bank statement from my new country of residence. Not only that, but it must be in English.

Ok, so fine. Apparently someone at the local gym did not know the policy, or intentionally misled me. I made a copy of my boarding pass and wrote them a letter explaining my situation which I sent to Bally's. I included a phone number and urged them to call me to discuss if anything comes up.

Again, today I check my bank statement and Bally's took the membership fee. Not quite sure what to do. I can always cut payment through my bank but that will surely have a negative impact on my credit. If there is anyone out there who had a similar thing happen to them with Bally's or can help me in any way, please contact me.

To those of you thinking about joining Bally's, DO NOT! I cannot stress this enough, they will lie to your face and rob you while you cannot do anything about it.

My contract is slightly different

My contract says that if you move 25 miles away, you must show proof of your new address. This can be a driver's license, a lease, or a change of address form.

I am not sure, but does the USPS accept change of addresses for people moving overseas?

Read your original contract, it does spell out exactly what is accepted when one moves. I would not expect a boarding pass to be sufficiant, as one may simply be going on a vacation.
