Banfield Vet was going to charge me an estimated $462.48 to $617.16 to remove two bumps on my Boxers hind leg. When I talked to my trainer she recommended her vet for a second opinion. The last thing I wanted was another vet bill but still I couldn't believe it was cancer. When he was 9mo old he tore his ACL and that was an awful surgery. His recovery was 6 months.
I went for the second opinion never mentioning to the new vet what I was doing. He asperated the bumps and tested them to be sure his diagnosis was right. My Boxer had two ingrown hairs. I then told him my story about Banfield and he said I get alot business from them. It cost me an office visit and a bottle of Benzoyl Plus Shampoo. My total was $64.57. That was two years ago. He never had cancer, the shampoo worked and I have a new vet.
It sure does make me wonder about my Boxers ACL surgery. That total was over $2000.00
When I called Banfield about what my second opinion said and that I wanted out of my wellness plan they said NO. I told them I wouldn't be bringing my other two dogs back because I no longer trusted the vet there, they still said NO. They did say that they hoped my Boxer didn't have cancer after all. I complained to the head office and it didn't matter. I still had to pay the remainder of my wellness plan for all 3 of my dogs plus the cost of changing to another vet. I paid them for the 9 month remainder of my wellness plan. I wouldn't recommend Banfield to anyone! I enjoy shopping at PetSmart and have no trouble quietly mentioning what happened to me.My Boxer is in great health in the care of his new Vet

Wow what a misdiagnosis!

I have heard nothing good about Banfield and it's amazing how many reports there are out there on them. We have an "emergency vet" in my town that does the same thing! There have been so many reports on her locally that I'm shocked she's still in business! I use to work at another Animal ER and also a Specialty practice as a CVT and people were ALWAYS bringing in their pets that have been botched up by that lady.
As far as the Wellness plan... did you sign anything? Always read the fine print before you do! If the contract didn't say anything about early termination and financial responsibility for the remainder of the time, well then you have a lawsuit on your hands.
I always encouraged our clients that had a beef with the problem vet to report her and something would be done about it eventually. The last thing I heard she had like 3 lawsuits on her plate and was STILL in business! Glad to see you reported this wrongdoing!
