I went to BOA Atlanta to open my account in Nov 2006. I submitted all the ids proof required and they opened my account. My last name and middle name are interchanged and I got a name {first name}{last name}{middle name}. I moved to Cleveland, OH and there are no BOA branches in 80 miles radius to my house. I sent mail to the customercare and they ask me to visit the local branch and submit id proofs. I called the customercare they say the same. I called the branch I opened account they asks me to call cusomercare.
They created a fake identity to me. They are not trying to correct themselves when I pointed out the mistake. They want me to go to their bank branch to correct their mistake. I don't have Bank branck near by to atleast drop by. Are these people breaking any regulation? If they are audited they don't have any id proof for my name which is on their records. Does USA banking laws allow to create a bank account without proper id proof?
BOA sucks

it sounds like they are trying to correct the mistake. However, they need to see a legal document (birth certificate, driver's license, etc) to do this. Easiest way to correct is to visit any BOA branch and show them your license. Since there are no locations close, the bank may accept a notarized copy of your birth certficate and/or driver's license mailed to them.
But, a question for you. Why didn't you get this corrected when you first started getting checks, debit card, statements with the name in the wrong order?
