Experience was horrible!!!! Test drove a 2003 Saturn that I loved, during test drive found out air conditioner did not work, was told the Saturn had 17,000 miles on it and no problem it is under warranty.
So left my 1997 Town and Country Minivan on side lot and they put me in a 2006 Ford Taurus to drive for 3 days while they attempted to fix the compressor. Always had to call them, the never called me, last day finally had husband call and he was told yeah it was fixed but they found out something on the "carfax" and that the deal had to be re-worked.
Then ran the car fax on my own and found out the Saturn was in a bad accident and both air bags deployed, wanted for used car manager to call me back and he told me the odometer reading was off and the real mileage was 90,000 and that he would knock $3,000 off deal, so I told him what I had found out and he acted like he knew, Told him I would never buy that vehicle, he said he would find me something else or refund my money, so went back next day attempted to buy 2006 HHR, was told credit was good, rate and put $2K down, payments a little high but car was nice, drove for 2 weeks now they call me and say they are having trouble with my financing and that I need to come back asap, so guess we will see what happens now:going to dealership tomorrow, bet they already sold my trade!

I'd turn them in to the Feds

They are going to sell that junk car to annother sucker and hope they get away with it. Turning back odometers is a serious crime and dealers all try to get away with it by saying they "didn't know." Every time a title is transferred the mileage is recorded, so they SHOULD know. Why would you deal with a crook anyways. I'd sic the news people on his a*s. Dealers usually pay about $50 apiece to get the odometers "spun" and I'd like to see them caught in the act.

First of all dealers run credit checks on you when you are test driving a car when you give them a copy of your License. They will tell you it is for insurance but that is crap. They are running your credit.
When you sign, they already know your credit has been approved.
Why on earth would they let you leave the lot with a vehicle that they are not guarenteed payment for? They are in business to MAKE money not provide free cars. So their story of 'credit problems' is so full of holes.
Tell them BS. You ran the credit and you had it accepted at the time of sale.

TIL Fed Box
AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, December 08, 2005
There is one thing you need when you leave the dealership and it's the Truth In Lending Statement and it will have something called the Fed Box which is simply this:
The Fed box lists the sales price, the interest rate, the cost of financing and the total price.
If you leave the dealership without it, you don't have a "done deal" and if you do leave the dealership with it, you have something a lawyer can cram up thier arse.

#16 Consumer Suggestion
F&I and Carfax
AUTHOR: Jackie - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, December 07, 2005
I once worked for a New / Used car dealer: It wasn't Bill Heard, I can tell you that most of them are from the same mold. I once had a used car manager tell me that he would make all he could off his mother and that I should do the same; he was lower than Scum, no heart, no soul.
In regards to F&I: Dealers will cap the interest to the highest rate allowed by law, depends on the lender as to the maximum cap. Example, the F&I person will tell you that you qualify for a 10% rate; the dealers buy rate (rate quoted by the lender to the dealer) may only be 6%. The dealer makes 4-points on the loan. Think about a $30,000 car financed for 60-months that amounts to thousands of dollars that consumers are being cheated out of. If someone has "not so good credit" and is not sure that they can buy, that's when the dealers have the upper hand, the buyer falls in love with a vehicle and the dealer bends them over the desk and gives them the works.
In regards to buying a used car: The dealers buy the vehicles below KBB "trade in value" and try to sell it to someone for KBB retail. Don't get suckered into this trap. When buying a used car, start at Trade in value. The short time that I worked at a Dealership, I saw many people leave in a used vehicle happy, the dealer made over $10,000 profit. I saw vehicles that they had $10,000 in sell all day long for $13,000 to $18,000 and up, many times. There minimum was $1,200 profit and they thought they lost money.
IN REGARDS TO CARFAX: I SEEN THE DEALER SALE A 2005 FORD WITH LOW MILES THAT HAD FRAME DAMAGE. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AND THE OWNER TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE FORD DEALER TOLD THEM THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN WRECKED AND TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE SHE HAD BOUGHT IT FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER TOLD THE CUSTOMER THAT THE CAR WASNT WRECKED WHEN IT WAS SOLD TO HER. SHE GOT SOMEBODY WITH STRONG WORDS AND POWER, (SHE GOT HER MONEY BACK) THE CARFAX DID NOT SHOW THE CAR BEING IN ANY KIND OF WRECK.
Anytime you buy a used car, take it to a mechanic shop, spend $50.00 to $75.00 and let them go over it with a fine tooth comb. Don't let the dealership talk you into anything else. I hope this helps someone out there.
I know that there are some people out there that can add to this report. The new media will not go after the dealers; it's up to web-sites like this one to get the word out. Look at the dealerships, look at the cars they drive, the houses they live in. Look at the newspaper adds, cost over $10,000 to run a full page add.

That is a common scam among car dealers.
Having all of you sales paperwork means absolutely nothing UNLESS...
... you have a SIGNED FINANCE AGREEMENT in hand that clearly states your interest rate, monthly payment, number of payments, down payment and total finance cost.
DO NOT EVER drive a car off the lot until your financing is approved. Do not ever leave them your trade in until the deal is done and financing APPROVED, not just quoted.
All car salesman are SCUM. They will screw you as bad as you let them..Guaranteed!

Hey there! I am sorry to hear about your situatuion too, my advise is to RUN not walk! Take the car back to Bill Heard and let them keep it. I took mine back and I went to Wilson Bank an Trust and got a loan with a 6.95 Interest Rate, and the person that said If I had good credit this wouldn't have happened, can kiss my butt, I have good credit or the bank would have turned me down! I also got it on 2 years less with a payment of $150 less a month, so yeah they RIP you off! I actually bought the HHR from Jim Reed and had my own loan, I bought the Vehicle for $4K less! Go FIGURE! Jim Reed treated me nice! They even sent me a refund check for overpayment, BIll Heard would have pocketed the money! Then yesterday I got a free Pen from them, and a call from Jim Reed the 3rd thanking me, wow Im impresses! Soon everyone will know what Bill Heard does, so their days are numbered. Last time I talked to an old salesperson there he said alot of people had quit and they were having trouble keeping people, people learn how they do business and can't sleep at nite. I have contacted Cars.com an so other places and they are now considering taking Bill Heard off their site! I am devoted to make sure noone else gets treated like us! "The person above" that said Bill Heard is legit, is CRAZY and obviously has financial interest in the company. Another girl I know bought a car back there and they did the same thing to her!! She kept the vehicle hahah until they repo'd it! You go girl! RUN FAST FROM BILL HEARD all the way to JIM REED! ASk for Wasi he was great!! Tell him Stacy Gee Sent ya!

I agree with Stacy. I just bought a car at Bill Heard last week. EVERYTHING was final....I filled out my paperwork, got copies, have the sales receipt, and drove off in my new car. I've had the car for a WEEK, and they just happened to call tonight and said they needed me to stop in. THey said they had a little trouble with the financing, but they found a "way to make it work." I go in, and find out they want an additional 1500 down, that my interest rates will go up, and so will my payments. WHAT THE HELL!?!? I'm going to a lawyer first thing in the morning. That was a fradulant sale....I have paperwork with the promised payments, interest rates, etc. They can't wait a week and decide to change it. That's a mistake on their part.

YEAH THE PAPERWORK SAYS ITS NOT FINALIZED BUT AFTER 3 WEEKS YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT YOU BEFORE THE 3RD WEEK TO TELL YOU THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD MANY EX-EMPLOYEE'S CONTACT ME AND TELL ME EVERYTHING BILL HEARD DOES AND DOES NOT GET CAUGHT FOR. I HAVE HIRED AN ATTORNEY AND AM GETTING TOGETHER A LIST OF PEOPLE. EXPOSE decptive ways of dirty car dealers is a MUST!

SUBMITTED: Saturday, November 12, 2005
Bill in Antioch, Tennessee I bet the dealer did not tell Stacy in Mount Juliet, Tennessee that they were going to "Firs a Shot Gun" to her credit report. I bet the dealer did not tell Stacy
I bet that here F&I Clown did not tell her that he knew that he did not have the paper hung. We Consumer Advocates know all about "F&I Clowns" and how they work.
Like to see how some other F&I Clowns operate? Pop these two below URL's into your web browser. Look real close to the pictures of the credit reports.
Go look at what happened to this car buyer's credit application BEHIND HER BACK. Look at the second photo in this Rip Off Report.
http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/reports/ripoff52158.htm
Next, I talked to the guy that filed this next rip Off Report. I told him to get a copy of the credit application he filed out at his car dealer. Go to this next Rip Off Report and look at the third photo. Can you say "Banking Fraud"
http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/reports/ripoff140682.htm
We also know that most media the media has no back bone to expose deceptive ways of new car dealers. Want to put a Media Mutt to the test. Email this Microphone Mutt and ask why is it that he refuses to expose dirty ways of new car dealers on his radio show.
Let me explain something to you about the media. I have been a Consumer Advocate on this web site for some time now. I have been doing what EVER I can to help expose deception in the auto industry for a long time now.
I have been in touch with KFYI 550 AM a Talk/News radio station Truing to get local MEDIA MUTTS behind the microphones to let Ripped off car buyers air their Bad experiences with car dealers.
Many at KFYI say that talking about auto dealer Rip Off's is not a debatable topic. Many have said It's not news a consumer can use. I say it's not a topic they want to expose because of BIG advertising money they get from car dealers. Can we say "Don't Bite the BIG HANDS that feed them"
Bruce Jacobs at KFYI 550 AM does not have the balls to expose car dealer scams, Nor does Joe Crummy.
I have seen local TV stations go after small mom and pop restaurants that do not have the big money to advertise on TV stations. They might go after the small places maybe because a customer reported to the Media that they saw a small bug on the floor. If the restaurant does not have big money to advertise on TV, they might soon be exposed.
Many car dealers know that they will not be exposed if they spend BIG money in the form of advertising. I have contacted 3TV on a few storys about car dealer scams and no luck getting them to help expose car dealer scams.
Scott said "It's not news they can use" Car buyer gets BENT OVER for a few GRAND and No media coverage. Small bug at a restaurant and WHAM TV cameras are in HIGH SPEED to the crime scene.
I am a car buyers Consumer Advocate on this web site and I have seen Arizona car dealers do just about everything to increase their profit. Trust me most car dealers don't care as to how you feel about them just as long as they sell you a car.
The big problem is that banks receive fraudulent credit application everyday and they are too stupid to spot them or the profit off of a car loan is more important to them that they just use blind employees to process the paper work.
We must bash the media that will not bring car dealer scams to the public and we must bash the car dealers and EXPOSE THE RAT BASTARDS!
The other problem is that most Attorney Generals have no clue as to what to look for when it comes to car dealer Rip Offs.
Do you think that a Real Estate office would let a Mortgage Broker play Spot delivery games with home buyers.
You know let the home buyer move in and then call them after they have settled in and tell them to come back in so the broker and "yank" down their pants and grab a bigger chunk of profit? I don't think so.
No TV station in this state has the balls to bend a few car dealers over and show consumers how dirty they can be. HUMMM Maybe it's because of all the big advertising $$$$$$ they all get from the car dealers that bend the consumers over.
Before or after a car buyer buys a car It would be nice if the media such as TV stations that have "On your Side programs" would do insider stories on the auto industry. They do stories on everything else like police, politics, crime, small restaurants, bad doctors and many other topics, why not new car dealers?
It seems that they, the media TV stations, Local Talk radio stations and newspapers do NOT want to let any of their reporters do any stories on new car dealers and the scams in the auto industry.

AUTHOR: Bill - (U.S.A.)

I HAPPEN TO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE PAPERWORK YOU SIGN IN FINANCE AT BILL HEARD CHEVROLET SPELLS OUT FOR YOU IN GREAT DETAIL THAT YOUR LOAN HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED WHEN YOU LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP (THIS WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM FOR ANYONE WITH GOOD CREDIT), ACTUALLY IN HUGE BOLD LETTERS ON A 'CONDITIONAL DELIVERY AGREEMENT'. THIS IS EVERYBODY'S CHANCE TO REFUSE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT. BILL HEARD IS ABSOLUTELY COMPLIANT IN EVERY WAY WITH THE VEHICLE PURCHASE PROCESS AND DELIVERY. THE CUSTOMER MAKES ALL THE FINAL DECISIONS ON THE PURCHASE, SO YOU CAN'T BLAME BILL HEARD FOR A DECISION THEY DO NOT MAKE. THEY DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING YOU SIGN BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FINANCE OFFICE. NO HIDDEN NUMBERS, NO SLIGHT OF HAND, JUST BLACK AND WHITE RIGHT THERE FOR YOU TO SEE.

READ THE PAPERWORK, BE RESPONSIBLE
AUTHOR: A - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, October 13, 2005
I am constantly amazed by the number of people that blame their poor decisions on someone else. When it comes to buying, leasing, financing a car, etc., read ALL the paperwork before you drive something off the lot. I have bought many cars and have never (knock on wood) had a bad experience; however I have also walked away from many deals that I didn't like.
People, remember that you are the consumer and the dealership is THERE TO SERVE YOU. You always have the option to get up and walk away from a deal before anything is done.
Now about the dealership credit and all that.
I could tell you that you have good enough credit to buy a car at my lot and that I can get you financing, but unless you sign something that authorizes the dealership (person, company or whoever) to pull your credit, they probably have no idea if they can get you financed. Once they have your credit, the salesman (or manager) can't approve your credit either. Until the sales guy brings you a whole ton of paperwork from a lending company, your loan has not been approved. If you are a savvy buyer and have decent credit you could avoid all the dealership financing hassles and get a loan from your bank. The advantage here is that usually you will get a better rate and you will know how much you can spent based on the max loan amount, which is based on your credit (and financial standing with the bank, personal relationship and history there, etc)
Now IF YOU DRIVE A CAR OFF A LOT WITHOUT FINANCING COMPLETE, you have to sign some other paperwork as well. The one time that I did do this I did not have a car to drive and had financing arranged through my bank. The papers I signed however spelled out that I could drive the car so many miles and days before I would be charged a per mile and per day fee until either (1) financing could be arranged for the vehicle or (2) I returned the car and paid the fees in full. This was all spelled out in plain English in bold letters on some paper I signed. BUT I signed it and by signing it I was entering into a legal contract.
Lastly, never go to a dealership and buy a used car without seeing two thing: (1) A carfax report from the CARFAX.com website and (2) the Kelley Blue Book value (resale and loan value matter in this situation) If the dealership won't furnish these then walk out until you can print them off the web yourself.
Be a responsible consumer, and if you aren't then blame yourself.

Turn them in
AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, October 13, 2005
I did this with a company in Bremerton, Washington. I had a problem with a new car that should have been taken care of immediately under warrantee...they balked saying it was my fault.
What I did was be very polite, and inform them of what I was going to do next. Then instead of just talking about it, I did this:
1. Contacted local newspapers and TV stations and invited them to see a "developing story" that was going to happen in front of a dealership that ripped me off.
2. Made a professional looking picket sign that stated "I got ripped off here"
3. Proceeded to walk up and down in front of their dealership (on a public walk/street) at the time I told the media to be there. Don't expect them to show up...but telling the dealer you alerted them even makes them truly nervous. (suggestion...if nobody shows up, be prepared to have a buddy around with a video camera and microphone who looks professional and possibly like a newsperson - both to document any harassment you may receive by the dealer and/or cops and to make the dealer think that they are a media outlet).
Needless to say, the dealer wasn't too happy that I was parading around in front of their business and called the cops. When the cops arrived, I reminded them that I was on public property and have a freedom to express an opinion...and that I wasn't naming names on my signage...just stating a generality.
For all that anyone was concerned, me getting "ripped off" could pertain to damned near anything, so they left me alone since I wasn't slandering anyone in particular (you have to do avoid using the company name or you could be in trouble there).
One local newspaper showed up, and if you want to see a dealership cave in to my demands, it was done then and there and to more than my satisfaction. If no media shows up, you at least have your buddy's tape you can send to the media on your own...and the dealer will in NO WAY want that to happen. The cops also won't want to be taped harassing you either.
This method works on any aggregious company...please feel free to copy it and paste it into other responses to help people out. Be aware that the cops could take you away in their car, but cannot press charges if you are on public property expressing an opinion without malice or using a name. DO NOT..repeat...DO NOT get beligerant in any way...stay calm and matter-of-fact.

I never heard of dealers doing this (letting you 'buy' a car then telling you weeks later you don't qualify) though I don't put it past them. I wonder what would happen if you just refused to return the car, but kept making the payments per agreement? Can they repo it even if you're making payments?
Or what would they do if you returned it all trashed and dented?

He got out of it because he has a CONSCIENCE!!
Dealerships don't.
This is called ROPING, a common practice among dealerships, they tell you your approved, you drive the car a couple of weeks, then they say something is wrong and need more money.
This should be illegal
Maybe we need a new set of LAWS in this country, the more I read on here, the madder I am getting, in this land of the free and home of the brave.
More like the home of all the rip off artists!

I am sorry to say it this was but you do not need to wait for them to find you another car. They have to legally give you your trade back or pay you whatever they showed you for on trade on paper. This company is terrible for doing this. I am an ex employee and I feel sorry for anybody who decides to buy a car from them. You need to take some time and read some more of these reports. You will change your mind. Do not let them sucker you into something you dont want. I would never reccomend this d**n company to anyone. They may say they can get you approved and you may drive the car for 4 months before they call you and tell you to bring it back!! I have seen it all working there. I wouldn't buy from there. Please go somewhere else and purchase the vehicle. I would hate to see another innocent victim get penalized for going to a RIP OFF DEALERSHIP....BILL HEARD SUCKS!!!!!
