Blizzard and its subsequent games is a mogul when it comes to the online game industry. With 10 million players on its game World of Warcraft, you would think that the reason for their success would be one that deserves utmost respect.  However, as a player of WoW I must say I am, to say the least, displeased with the service they provide.

To start off, let me note that it is an abnormally hot Tuesday here in California, and as expected all servers of the World of Warcraft game are down for maintenance.  Also as expected the maintenance has been extended.  As a monthly paid service, one would assume that a month of service is what the consumer would receive, however with the wonderful Blizzard at work, the consumer receives an average of four less game days.  (Especially if that consumer is on the East Coast, where maintenance falls mid day).

Now, even with the fraction of days being spent on WoW, many do not complain, and remain full hearted fans of the game.  Therefore, customer service must be at hand, right? Because something or someone must be holding the players in game, assisting with their technical and or emotional in-game problems? Well, the short answer to that is no, no there isn't.  Contacting a 'Game Master' can take up to a couple of days before one's problem is attended to (I've even heard of individuals waiting a WEEK at a time before their issues are taken care of!).  Now with all the money that Blizzard receives, through monthly service fees, expansion pack fees, not to mention BlizzCon, which costs 150 dollars to get in, ouch! shouldn't they be investing in a little more help?

But nonetheless, many still remain die hard fans of the game.  The content really does stand out amongst many, though the graphics could use an update.  I even admit, the game in all its glory is addicting to say the least.  But what really keeps wow heads playing the game? Perhaps it is the spirit healer, whom visits all players which die by the hand of evil foes - which is set to loop a subliminal message which seemingly says "Play World of Warcraft...Give us Your Money"

Where's the rip off?

AUTHOR: Acana - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, July 19, 2010

I'm confused as to where you think the rip off happened.

Maintenance is a necessary evil. Perhaps you have not been playing long enough, but for a time, Blizzard attempted to skip maintenance as often as possible. The result was lots of lag, and unplayable servers. The weekly time taken away from the players sucks, but it keeps the game running. Lately, we've seen a decent amount of rolling restarts instead of 10+ hour maintenance times. My peak hours ALWAYS fall under the "scheduled" time. I still don't see it as a rip off.

I've had to ticket GMs quite a few times in my time spent on WoW, as well as on many other games. WoW GMs were much more helpful on average, and got to my ticket lots faster than other games' GMs did. It's very easy to say "why don't they hire more people?". I'll tell you why. Generally speaking, they can and will answer your ticket in less than a day (average is looking like 4 hours or so to me). Why would they hire a ton more people when they're usually able to keep up? If you're asking them to investigate your account for some reason, this is a very different situation. No matter how many people they hire, idiots who delete their own characters, or click on keyloggers will always always always outnumber their staff.

I've seen the subliminal message before. While I found it amusing, I feel some of the players who react to that as a conspiracy, need tinfoil hats. You're already playing. You're already giving them money. Clearly, they didn't need subliminal messages to get you there.

If this were a situation where they didn't return an account to you, or you were unfairly banned, I might wonder if you were ripped off. This post lacks any...well...actual rip offs.
