I received in the mail a letter telling me that I owe $722.00 to Sprint PCS and that Cavalry Portfolio Services has taken over the debt and is requesting that I remit payment in full.

Being that I never owned a cell phone with service from Sprint, Set off a few warnings in my head and I decided to google this company's name and low and below the is a crap load of other people who is going through the same thing as me.

Now I need to find the time to get my affairs in order and contact this crappy company. I hope there is a class action lawsuite in the works to shut down companies like this. Believe me, I would be glad to help in any way.

If anyone knows of a fool proof plan to get these blood suckers off your back for good. Please let me know.

Handle this formally

Bert:

You're not really going about this in a way that's going to protect you in the future. You need to be doing all of your comuunication in writing via certified mail.

There is help and justice available to you. They're called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Read up on both, but in a nutshell, a collector/collection attorney has to prove that you owe the alleged debt in order to collect on it or report it to the credit bureau.

There are TONS of debt collection discussion forums on the net - pick one and start reading.

First thing is first though...immediately send a letter to Calvary disputing the debt. Send it via certified mail, return receipt (and keep the receipt and letter copy in your files).

They either have to send you proof that you owe the debt, or stop all collection attempts.

Check your 3 credit reports to make sure they're not reporting a derogatory collection account. If they are, dispute the accounts with the credit reporting agencies.

You have legal recourses should this thing not go away. Inform yourself and others about your rights as a consumer. Don't fall for collection tricks!

Called Calvary (New York) they told me to call the Arizona office though they were the one to place the negative on my credit report. Called the Arizona branch and was told that there is nothing they can do as it has already gone to the lawyers.

I get mail from a local lawyer asking that I pay up or go to court and pay for all expenses. I tell them that it is not my debt so, I would like to them to prove to me that this is my debt. So, they say the paper work is going out.

I am handling this the right way?

I tried calling Kristen Papp but that was not her extension. Bummer :( The fleecing of the hard working, where will it end. I think that debt buying should be illegal as from what I have read, these large corporations write it off come tax time?

Try this

I hate these people. Most unethical "company" I have ever dealt with short of Sprint PCS themselves. Call Kristen Papp at 1-866-483-5139 EXT 13442. She is a manager and no matter what she may say she ultimately can make the decision to pull the account. Treat this info as gold my friend and good luck!
