I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH CALVARY PORTFOLIO SERVICES. IN 1999 MY HUSBAND HAD A CC WITH HOUSEHOLD BANK. WE PAID OFF THE BALANCE EXCEPT FOR $81.00.

WE FELL ON HARD TIMES AND TOLD HOUSEHOLD WE WOULD PAY THEM AS SOON AS OUR FINANCES BECAME IN ORDER AGAIN.

WELL, IN 2000, WE DECIDED TO REFINANCE OUR HOUSE AND THEY PULLED A CREDIT REPORT.

ON HIS CREDIT REPORT WAS A COLLECTION ACCOUNT FOR 935.00 WITH CALVARY SERVICES.

I CALLED THEM AND ASKED HOW A BALANCE OF 81.00 COULD GO TO 935.00, THEY SAID THAT THIS WAS THE AMOUNT THAT WAS SENT TO THEM BY HOUSEHOLD, WHICH IS BULLSHIT.

I CALLED HOUSEHOLD WITH MY HUSBAND ON THE PHONE AND THEY ADVISED US THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND OUR ACCOUNT, BUT SOMEONE WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND CALL US BACK. 3 DAYS LATER I GOT A CALL AND THEY SAID THAT THE BALANCE WAS $81.00 AND WE COULD PAY THIS TO THEM.

I HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING THIS, BUT WHEN I ADVISED CALVARY THAT HOUSEHOLD SAID WE ONLY OWED 81.00 THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO RESEARCH IT AND GET BACK WITH ME, GUESS WHAT...THEY NEVER HAVE.

I AM STILL DISPUTING THIS DEBT WITH CALVARY, AND THEY KEEP SAYING NO IT IS $935.00.

I WILL NEVER PAY THEM THIS MUCH IF THEY CAN'T GIVE ME AN ITEMIZED BILL OR GET SOMEONE TO RESPOND TO MY LETTERS OR CALLS.

original creditor paid collection is mute.

If you have a receipt from Household for the balance, the collection agency has nothing to collect. You can in turn sue them if they keep harassing you.

Hi there! I just read your report and I'm sorry that you've had the unfortunate displeasure of dealing with Cavalry Porfolio Services. They've tried the same kind of spiel with my husband, claiming that he owed them $400 from Mobil, which was paid off years ago and we had proof that it was paid off. But they didn't care about the proof, and they've listed themselves on his credit report with derogatory information. However, I have a suggestion that might help you:

See if you can find an attorney in your area specializing in consumer law that will help you. I was able to find one through a gentleman at my church, and when I told this attorney about what's going on with Cavalry and gave him all the information we had, he said that he knows how Cavalry operates and is going to go after them for everything! He's already filed the complaint on our behalf, now we're just waiting for the outcome.
