I purchased a Canon powershot S10 digital camera with a factory one year parts and labor warranty. The camera stopped working several times, then worked fine again. On July 6,2001 I took three photos and the camera stopped working for ever.I was still under "CANON Factory WARRANTY" so I sent the camera back to Canon for repair.I was told that"The camera was very badly water damaged and that VOIDS the Warranty" However they would replace the camera with a "refurbished camera" for $327.88.. I purchased the camera at Brands Mart USA with a kit including all the accessaries for $248.00. I would like to caution any one thinking of buying a CANON product to remember this letter when they tell you about the WARRANTY !! When you send something in for repair just think how a few drops of water can save the company money on there WARRANTY repair. A person and a company is only as good as there word.(or WARRANTY)This camera was never exposed to any wet or damp conditions.I take VERY good care of my cameras and still have working cameras that I bought new 40 years ago.. Thanks, SHIRL

Identical Situation with my Canon Powershot S10
AUTHOR: Mondo - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Friday, September 30, 2005
I also purchased a Canon Powershot S10 which stopped working a few months after I purchased it. It doesn't turn on. I also sent it in for repair and received the camera back with a letter stating that it was completely ruined from water damage, that it would cost them too much to fix, but I could buy a refurbished camera. They also included a very bad picture of I don't konw what. They refused to fix it after I called and sent several letters. I finally contacted the BBB and Canon didn't answer their letters until my warranty was up. I spoke with a man at Canon who actually loved telling me that there was nothing I could do about it, and that since I contacted the BBB, I would have to communicate with them from now on. This is identical to your situation Sherl and I understand your frustration. I'm a poor little guy who got f'd by yet another corrupt company. I'll let you konw what happens in small claims.

I'll avoid Canon like the plague.

Thanks, Shirl, for the warning.
But, you be sure to fax a copy of this to Canon. Let them know they are listed on a fraud site. That will cost them money. People like me write down companies that make junk, and avoid them.
Don't worry about your spelling. You knew enough to save up $250 to buy the camera in the first place. That's what matters here.
Plus, you made it clear to me that your camera didn't get wet.
Get the revenge book. It explains how to best use this site to get results.
Good luck!

Not that my spelling and grammar are ever perfect, but typing a complaint with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation helps the letter stand out.
Also, you start out quite agressive...... this issue must not be new. If you really wanted Canon to help, I think the tone would be friendlier.

I have an idea, how about not getting your expensive digital camera wet! It's people like you who don't take care of their expensive purchases that wind up complaining because a company isn't going to cover every stupid thing you do to your camera. Another hint...electronics do not like water! They Do not like being dropped! TAKE CARE OF YOUR ELECTRONICS AND THEY PROBABLY WILL NOT BREAK OR GET DAMAGED AS EASILY!!!! If i were the manufacturer i wouldn't cover clumsiness either. I'm waiting for your smartass hick remark.

Thanks for your worthless advice. It sounds to me that you were schooled far beyond your inteligence level. Glad to here that you have spell check on your computer.
You must work for Cannon. You sound like the type of person I dealt with. You can buy cannon products, I sure won't waist my money on them any more. Get a life Nigel and do something productive You belong on the Jerry Springer show... Did I spell your name right?
Don't buy Cannon products. They ripped me off and I still have the worthless camera. Brands Mart sold me another new camera at or near cost when I told them how CANNON ripped me off.
BUY USA products.

Resolving similar problems

I know companies can be recalcitrant, but often you can get this sort of thing resolved with some persistence - the chief objective is to find the right person. Usually the higher up the food-chain, the better, and if you can get the name of someone in Management, try a phone call. I have had a number of experiences like this one, and have usually managed to get satisfaction, despite initial resistance.
And I expect too that the following criticism will be resented - perhaps even rejected as 'nonsense', but it DOES matter how you write. If you cannot spell simple words like 'their', or 'accessories', find someone to help you. Nothing detracts more from the seriousness of a complaint than poor spelling and grammar. It may not be strictly relevant to the issue, but it gives them an excuse (at least in their minds) for not taking your complaint seriously.
Forgive me for saying this - I only mean to help.
