I am on an auto loan with my partner. I am listed as a primary and she as the secondary. Back in March, my partner contacted Capital One Auto to cancel the auto draft from our account (that she set it up) explaining to them that we had been advised by our bank to not allow anyone to have access to our account. There had been several issues with places like Citi Finical and Capital Once just taking what they wanted and when they wanted. Capital Once said they under stood and took the auto draft off our account. We even told them they would receive payments twice a month from our bank. We made a payment and went about our business.

The following Friday (not a payday) my partner gets a call from the bank, your account is being drafted by Capital One Auto and we need to verify this is ok. The amount will over draft your account. Of course, we said NO and they should not have access to the account any longer. We provided the bank with all of the information they requested (whom we spoke to at Capital One, their identification number, date and time we called). The bank stopped the auto draft. My partner called Capital One Auto and complained. She asked what the issue was and why they were still drafting the account. She was told there was not a notation of the change on the account and the draft was still in place. My partner gave them the name, identification number, date and time of whom she called. The No Customer Service Representative said sorry our mistake I will make sure this is taken care of right away. Great my partner told them could I have your information please.

Two weeks later (kid you NOT) my partner is on the bank web site paying bills. Holly crap someone has removed $650.00 from our account. After researching the activity on the account, we find it is Capital One Auto. We of course called the bank and they were caught off guard stating this should not be we have deactivated their ID from your account there is a permanent blocker on your account for them. After researching, the bank found that Capital One was being sneaky and changed their ID number in order to remove the money from the account. Thankfully, the bank was able to pull the money back to our account.

So now it is time for me to get involved. I called and got the run around when I asked for a supervisor. The customer no service rep told me I needed to tell them what was wrong. After four people, I finally got a supervisor. I asked him to pull up my account and tell me what notations where on the account. He would not, stating this was their notes and I do not have a right to know what they are. I said Ok I would make note of this response. I asked him to double check to see if there was an auto draft set up on my account. Yes there is I explained this is the third and last time one of us would be calling ALL auto drafts need to be removed from our account. I gave him all the information we had given the Customer No Service Reps before including their names, ID numbers, date and time of the call. I was told because I was not on the account I could not make changes Excuse me WTF I am on the account as the primary He then proceeded to explain that because I was not on the bank account not the Auto Loan account I could not make changes. I explained as nicely as I could without cursing I am on the bank account. Then his story changed again, you did not set up the auto drafts therefore you cannot change them. At this point, I am boiling mad and I asked for his information, which he provided.

I called the bank and explained to them what has happened. The bank agreed NO longer will Capital One have access to the account at anytime and they would testify if needed in court as to the problems and changes Capital One has made just to get money they do not deserve.

Capital One Auto Finance

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

I have an auto loan through Capital One and have no problems. You need to send them a letter stating that you want the auto withdraw from your bank stopped and how you plan on making your payment to them.

I had to send a letter when I first got the loan stating that I would mail my payments in every month.

Did you manage your account online?

Did you try your online account manager? You might be able to deactivate that feature without calling them. I have Capital One myself and they have a "Send Secure Message" link.. I use it to start most of my tickets because they can't delete it out of their system, or at least not that I've noticed.. I guess I shouldn't say they "can't" but I don't think they do..

I feel for you, I don't have auto-pay setup on my auto loan for this very reason.. i don't trust third parties with my bank account.. I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue.. I know I've heard that sometimes it takes one billing cycle to remove the auto draft which I think is total BS but I've heard of that before..
